Last year before i went to iraq i backed into a concrete block that was bearly taller than my bumper. it kinked the right rear quarter panel in and seems to have jammed the tailgate. i just got it out of storage and now the rear window doesnt roll down. however it did after that accident but not now. what do i do to get the tailgate down and to troubleshoot the back window?

Thanks

The last time I looked the wires for the door motor come from the left side. Other than that, do as Killerbronco666 says and jumper the leads to the window motor. If it doesn't move swap the leads. The problem may also have to do with the tailgate safety switch, try pushing in on the left top side. Sometimes the safety switch, (located in the left latch), doesn't make. Other possibilities are the connectors.

Just a thought, if your driver window switch isn't in the center position, it will prevent the rear switch from working. Two fuses are involved one used by the rear switch, and one by the driver switch.

Just throwing out some possibilities. A diagram for the tailgate circuit is attached. It is for a 83, but the circuit is the same for all years with the exception of connector style and number of connectors.

I know the rear window will. The passenger window should.

you most likely smashed the wires that control up and down as I did. , To fix it I ran a piece of wire from the positive on the switch to the negative and straightened out the smashed wires, don't ask how but it worked and performs like stock :)>-

That is not the driver door window switch I was talking about. I was talking about the switch on the dash for the rear window. They are easy to trouble shoot and fix. First jumper the motor leads to make sure it is OK, reversing the leads reverses the direction of the motor. If it is, use a multimeter to check the voltages. A common culprit is the window safety switch in the left tail gate latch or a bad connection at one of the connectors.

Good luck,

:)>-
