While getting ready to install the new AOD I noticed it had a hose barb & rubber line up top in the rear just in front of the transfer case adapter. The tranny that's going in is from an 87' and is factory remanufactured. I thought it might be a vent, it has about 6" of rubber hose then it goes to a hardline that was cut when the tranny was removed. The transmission I removed from the 88' doesn't have a hose barb there but instead there's some funky non-removable metal cap. The cap spins freely and moves up & down about 1/8" but it's captive & doesn't come off. Never seen one like it before.
Also, anyone know anything about deciphering Ford casting numbers or maybe have a link to a page w/info ? The 88' bellhousing has a large "52" cast into the top between the top two bolt ears and the 87' has a "55". I'm sure it isn't anything critical but I get curious about stuff like this and wondered if anyone had any leads on where I could track dow the info. I have site that give casting # info for heads, blocks & 9" center sections but nothing for transmissions.
