My switch works ok but the window will not go all the way up or down. I was wondering if a tailgate with the bottom rusted out will flex enough to bind up the window in its tracks. I'm getting closer to getting it on the road and would like to use the tailgete.

Thanks, Dennis

It could cause problems if the bottom support for the window actuator were rusted off. Mine came loose and I had to do a temporary pop rivit thing to fasten it to the outside skin which prevented the mounting bracket, that the windoe actuater is on, from shifting as the window went up and down. Also, you might want to check to see if the window guides on the sides are secure so they don't shift position and cause binding.

First check your side channel brackets and see if there is anything clogging them. Also check the defroster wiring as that could cause a snag either going up or down.

The bottom of your rear glass has 2 horizontal brackets in which the regulator arm end plastic pieces fit.

It sounds like you may have to grind the rivets which hold these on and precede to remove the glass.

Otherwise, let the tailgate down, close the latching locks (on both side as I have no idea what year you have). This will trick the safety switch and allow you to roll the window out.

If you cannot see your problem then, you may hace to remove the motor and check the plastic bushings that surround the gear. Most of the time, they have been ground into small pieces which bind the worm drive.

You must secure the gear arms with vise grips or a screwdriver thru a hole in the asembly or the spring will lash and hurt you or break the glass.

I just rebuilt my tailgate completely and it is a slow time consuming aggrivating chore.

If you research enough at Bronco Club sites, there is one that goes thru the whole procedure step by step with pictures.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!! :((

I got the window up most of the way by pulling on the top of the window with my boy running the switch. I am going to replace the rusted out tailgate with a aftermarket one, I will try to find the problem as I move every thing over to the new gate. I have a friend that did his and said he will help me.

Thanks for all your help, I know what to look for now.

Thanks, Dennis
