Dealer stated that my air bag monitor module was fried and that it was an obsolete part. After going online, I see these modules are available. Any opinions on which brand? Seems like a fairly easy install but do they need to be reprogrammed? Other than disconnecting the battery, what else do I need to be careful with? Thanks for any assistance offered.

Wait at least 5 min after disconnecting the battery for the caps to discharge before disconnecting the module. Other than that, it is pretty straight forward.
Back in 96 it should be plug and play. Flashing modules was still a dream back then. (Just starting)
Good luck
Cheers

I'm on a couple other forums...one for the 71 C10 project and one for the 78 square body. I wish those forums were as friendly and informative as this forum. Thanks again.

Followed the links for the 96 part number. Guess the service manager was right. It's discontinued. Guess it'll be a knock off after market part. Any suggestions for a knock off?
