My actuator rod dislocate from the steering column, I found a post a few weeks ago talking about a joint that came loose from the steering column. Does anyone know about this, or why I can find the joint? For the moment I installed a push button, but i want to be able to crank her right again.

Thanks,

Mitch

If ther Actuator rod is not broken, then the most likely thing is that the link that connects it to the keyswitch is broken. The link is different for a non-tilt and tilt column. In anyy event you have a bit of disassembly and reassembly ahead of you to replace it.

Get yourself a Haynes, Chiltone or better yet a shop manual. If all else you can take it to the dealer.

Good luck,

:)>-

Unfortunately the link that connects it to the key tumbler is the weak link :-& .

That's what I was thinking. It took us forever to get everything lined backup when we replaced the ignition switch module and all the other stuff in the steering column!

There is a proceedure that makes the alignment easier, but just getting at the link to replace it requires a lot of disassembly and re assembly.

Oh now you tell me!!! LOL...

After everything that I went through with the Bronco and the actuator rod...I think I could probably consider myself a professional at taking that thing apart and putting it back together.

I think I might just leave the push button I have on it now on there for a little while longer. I just dont feel like taking the steering column apart anytime soon. And it came apart when I ran the Bronco into some trees beside a lake...long story. but she managed to make it out with only minor damage.

um......... okay.

the link to the tumbler is weak. it is pretty bad so actuator rods are not uncommon to dislocate. :)>-

I found that putting the actuator rod back on was a pain. I would get it on, put it all back together...and then find out it had slipped off again. Frustrating...but finally found a way! Sometimes it is nice to have skinny fingers!!!

It can be done without any special tools but it's a pain.

The actuator roc is a stiff wire rod that connects the key tumbler to the start switch on top of the steering column.

Good luck,

As you can tell, I am not that "car smart". I get BroncomaticMinnesota to do all the work on my bronco. lol. my dad isn't really ever around so BroncomaticMinnesota helps out with truck work. My mom is always at work or dating. so we have lots of parties. :)>-

you actually had your actuator rod pop off of yours. remember me and your dad worked on it. he was the one who put it back in though. he didnt want me puttin it in the wrong place. but that was the first time i actually worked with an actuator rod so it was neat to learn. your dad is a good guy. ya just gotta be on his good side.

Yeah the only problem I'm having with that part of the vehicle now is that I have to sometimes lift up on the steering wheel to get it to engage the ignition switch module... :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Easy fix though...just have to get around to doing it.
