hey guys my neighbors buildin a little 64 scout 80 and its got factory f/r powelocks and 4.27s in the model 27 axles....the rear ring gear is missin several teeth and he said its happend several times earlier in the scouts life. are the 27s really that weak? its now on 31" bfg muds with stock tranny and 4cyl. would it last longer to take the powerlock out? it seems like the axle shafts would go before the gears...anyways i was wondering how wide the 9" axles are i thought it would be a good choice and probably about the same width maybe. also are 4.27s availible for the 9"?? anyone know the dimenisons of any older jeep vehicle 44 rear? thanks alot. o yeah... i think the scout axle from inside drums is 47 or 48" and its a 5 on 5.5 pattern.

The stock Bronco 9" housing ***** is 53". From outer drums its 58". Should work fine. You will have to move the spring perches to align with the Scout leafs and weld them in place. This is a good time to angle the pinion upwards a bit so no shims are needed. If the axle seems a bit to wide you can get a inset wheel. Its just like how many early Bronco owners go with full width D60's and run hummer wheels to keep narrow.
