New to Bronco Zone

I found a 87 F-350 4x4 with a 460 and C06 for sale, cheap.

Is it posible to swap engine , trans , axles , to my 87 Bronco. Mine has 302 that need a rebuild. Or is that 302 a good engine to fix up.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. The 460 is definately a more powerful engine but weighs a lot more and takes a litttle adaption to mount. You are only getting about 43 HP more out of the 460 @ 3600 RPM. It is a higher compression engine so fuel cost is higher, another of the costs is additional weight up front, so you will probably need to beef up the front suspension and surely need the stronger axles. There are plenty of people that have put in 460's and I'm sure they can help you with conversion questions.

The 302 is also a great block to rebuild and can be beefed up a bit without violating emissions laws. It can be pushed well above it's stock horsepower but then you may find that it can't pass gas stations, ofcourse you will have the same problem with the 460.

Bottom line, anything can be done, check with Blade262US. He has done some neat stuff. Can't remember who it was right off hand, but someone in this forum also put a cummings diesel in their truck.

Good luck,

:)>-

By the way, welcome to the Zone > Post some pictures of your truck and the new project as it goes, if you decide to do it.

Good luck,

Hello yes it is completely feasible especially having a complete donor truck . You need everything , frame mounts for the motor , radiator support Im thinking there different for the 460,s , You can put the entire leaf sprung front end in your bronco as long as your frame is an 80 to 91 . I made a short box F250 using an 81 2 wheel drive frame and an 84 3/4 ton donor truck every bracket lined up in the 2 wheel frame with atleast one bolt hole so I could bolt it them drill the rest . Besides if you have a welder and torches you can do anything . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Welcome to the Zone! >

Don't forget the computer and maybe the harness. From what I can tell you should have everything you need.

Good luck and don't forget to post some pics :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

kinda off topic,,,, but is it possible to put a fower stroke in a 91 bronco :glare: , I had thought about it but wasn't sure is it would work, and if its too much to handle. I don't know much along the engine build up of the motor but my boyfriend is a diesel truck mechanic :D/ , he works for Coke, I suppose he might would know enough bout a small engine to help me re-do one if needed. anyways lol sorry its off topic a lil..

I am gonna start a new topic w/ this guys,,, Thanks!

Hello to all you Bronco people

Well the 302 is still there , and the f-350 is too. I just thought it would have more HP with the 460 but if its cheaper to fix up the 302 and will end up doing the same, it will stay. I just use it for off road , sand dunes , and trails here in Mexico, but would like info on how to beef up the 302 if anybody knows any. By the way , I don

There are several good books on the subject. I'm sure you can get them at Amazon.com or in a local book store. How to build Horsepower by David Vizard, Small-Block Ford Engines by Tom Monroe, Ford Windsor (small block Performance) by Isaac Martin, Ford V-8s On a Budget by George Reid, Ford Performance by by Pat Ganahl are just a few and all filled with a lot of great information.

I don't run on Sand dunes, but it would seem to me that you would want to stay away from a geraring setup that produces a lot of low end torque. In my mind that would just dig you in but then my mind might not be working properly    .

Good luck,

:)>-
