With a loud BANG, the tranny quit-- no gears, the engine whined, and I cannot get any car movement at all. The shifter does move to all gears.

Where do I start traubleshooting first??

Any good mechanics in Everett, WA?????????

Take the inspection cover off and look in the bell housing for chunks of clutch disk if theres no inspection cover pull the starter out and look in through there . Hope there is chunks because then its just a matter of putting a new clutch in it . If no chunks the be prepared to get ***** by a tranny guy :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Many thanks. I'll do that first thing, after my Starbuck's in the morning!!!

Yeah, I have read some horror stories about the A4LD rebuilds.

OOOOOOPS I was thinking you had a stick . Dont waste your time looking in there just start pulling it out . I had a C4 make that noise and the front pump gear split destroying my $400 TCI street fighter convertor . Where you located at ? I have a buddy here in MI that does trannies and hes very good . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yeah, I just got three quotes for the work......Worth three times what the car is....

I live just north of Seattle, so it might be a long trip for me!!!!!!!

Anyway the car does not move in any gear...

Being on a small fixed income means I might have to get rid of the beast, or part it out.

It was fun while it lasted.

Any members on here from my area???

Jaydee,

this might sound a little odd...

is there a chance that the t/case jumped out of gear??

Shift the t/case through all gear ranges and see if you can get any movement or even something to grind or lock-up.

Auto trannies don't USUALLY go "bang", but a chain driven t/case will...

The chain doesnt drive the rear wheels though by design the power transmission can only be interupted to the rear shaft by shifting into neutral which uncouples the output shaft . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yep, but if it dropped into neutral....

there would be no go.

If for some reason, there was another type of failure

(IE electronic shift motor over shifting) there may be grinding

or gear engagement when it is shifted.

[sorry, but no go.

I have tried many times through all the gears. Park is the only part that works.

There is no grinding or noise. Seems like atotal disconnect from the engine. The engine can go faster-- nothing else happens....

Yup, it was a bang-- good thing the case is bulletproof!!
