 '86 Bronco, 302 "N" EFI Auto Trans

Was driving home the other day (ok back in June) and started loosing power on the freeway & it sounded like the lifers were making noise.

Made a pit stop to check it out, couldnt find or see anything & tried to get it home, didnt make it. Ran like it was running on 4 of the 8 cyl. couldnt keep it running at a redlight while in gear. had to call for a tow. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Now just before it died, it was running (if you call it that) VERY VERY rough, AND VERY VERY RICH (you could **** a horse with the exhaust)

There were some issues with the engine, so I have rebuilt it, and if you want to use the word BLUEPRINT, you may as it is, but it is still "JUST" OEM, .30 over, new cam, lifters, push rods, water pump, high vol oil pump w/new screen, etc.

Now its back in, finally got it started, timing set 10 deg BTC but :excl: still runs VERY VERY rough & VERY VERY RICH :excl: , just like it was before it "died"

:excl: SOME ADDITIONAL INFO I FORGOT TO POST :excl:

The running ROUGH & VERY RICH happens at all rpm's

When in gear and "trying" to drive it, it is so rough that it seems to be missing on 1,2,3, or maybe 4 cyls.

Vac leaks are ruled out, all "extras" are capped off. Only MAP, EGR, & Feul Pressure Reg have Vac.

Im sorry that I didnt make this clear earlier.

Feel free to ask questions & I will answer them, but lets cover the basics 1st.

Ing system is NEW-dist/mod, cap/rotor, wires/plugs, & coil

New O2 Sensor

Fuel Pressure Running 30psi, 42psi with vac removed, have not done engine off pressure test yet

Ask away, tell me what I have missed to get my old girl running the way she should be so I can go & enjoy my old friend again, the way a BRONCO is to be treated... on a lake bottom!!!

Pulling codes would be a good idea. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I still don't understand how a vacuum leak may cause one to run rich, but I have read that often enough to be able to suggest looking for a vacuum leak.

I think that an exhaust leak, before the HEGO, or a faulty HEGO, or crappy connection at the HEGO may also be a cause of running rich.

Did you try cleaning the IAC? If it is stuck closed... maybe.

I updated my post with a lil more info.

As for O2, its a 1 wire, not heated

IAC, im gonna say is not the "real" issue as the running problems are @ all rpm's and worse with a load on the engine.

I will check the codes next weekend when i get back from work.

Mikey is stumped... this is just a brain killer

Could it be that you have a couple of wires crossed?

OR

How about induction missfireing, you can search miesk5's site

www.broncolinks.com for the induction missfire info. The wries must be properly routed.

steve83 also posted info regarding that in a thread here a couple of months ago.

BroncoJoe19,

Thanks for the link, I will make sure it is right.

I am also thinking that I may have a bad or few bad injectors with it running as rich as it is, but I do have access to a injector leak/test stand and Im gonna check the driverside 4 next weekend if I get the time.

I am going to replace the fuel regulator since it is just a lil out of spec when vac is removed and the im gonna clear any/all codes and let it run at idle for about 15-20 mins and see if I get any codes.

I know I should be getting a "Rich Fuel" code from the O2 right now (but did I check.. NO) with the exhaust being able to **** a horse.

If you or any one of your friends on here have any other ideas, please have then passed on.

Thanks for your input...

-mike-
