I need help with 3G alternator upgrade. I will be using the alternator from a 91 Taurus, which is a 130 amp unit. other than the harness plug, which Ive found pre-made @ RJMinjections, and the heavy duty gauge wiring and megafuse, is there any other wiring mods I need to do. ie. headlight wiring harness.

The headlight harness looks cool but is not necessary for the 3G. I installed the 3G from an explorer and have not yet upgraded the wiring. So I would say that even that part is not wholly necessary.

Nothing against RMJ Ryan is good people.

The upgrade isn't even necessary unless you are putting an increased load on the alternator like off road lights, high performance stereo system, electric fan, etc. I had to upgrade mine because I had put in 4200 CFM fan which had a start current of around 100 amps and settled out at 35 amps. In that case the old 1G alternator just didn't hack it. It is the alternators job to supply all electrical loads once the engine is started plus top off the battery. If you ar planning other upgrades in the electrical system then go with the alternator wiring upgrade. It doesn't make sense to upgrade to a high output alternator and not upgrade the wiring. If you don't, you run the risk of starting an electrical fire since the old wire is too small for the current running through it as well as causing a voltage drop due to the higher resistance of the old smaller wire.

As far as the headlight upgrade, it has nothing to do with the alternator upgrade. It will do just fine in either case. The headlight upgrade puts higher voltage to the headlights than they get via the factory path which has a lot of extra wire in it and other devices drawing from that circuit. Ergo, you have a shorter path from the supply voltage source plus larger wire which all adds up to decreased voltage drop to the head lights. You will notice a vast improvement in the headlight brightness with this upgrade. Make sure the grounding point for the headlights is removed, cleaned, and reinstalled.

RJM makes great stuff, a little expensive, but then you get what you pay for :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,
