Have a 1990 Bronco with factory 302.no mods.I am pulling 4000lbs worth of boat and trailer(moomba) and motor has 185,000 miles.1st owners didn't care for...have blow-by but runs ok.I will replace motor next summer, provided it makes it through this one.Was wondering if I should replace with windsor or keep 302 and just put a slight bigger cam in it?...Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just swapped my 302 for a 351 in an 89 and OMG what a difference . I used heads off an 86 5.0 ** ported them a little myself . Used a comp cams 35-255-5 cam which is specifically for the 351W with speed density fuel injection ( VERY VERY IMPORTANT ) Crane pro magnum roller rockers , speed pro flat tops the moly coated ones, comp cams chrome moly push rods , comp cam timing set , MSD TFI distributor and 6A box with bosch platinum plus 4 plugs . Theres a place called www.fordfuelinjection.com and I got the resistors for eliminating the EGR and all related solenoids . Also got rid of the smog pump and all related peices. With the old motor that had all that shit the exhaust smelled really gassy now its as clean as could be . There are a couple pins in tha engine harness conector that have to be rearanged and you will have to have a computer from a truck that had a 351 or it will run lean and damage the motor . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I've heard the windsor has the same heads as a 302. It's the 351 custom that has larger heads I think. I'm really not to sure about that. My source is a couple of guys sitting around drinking beer and BSing about what they think they know. So now I'm passing that along. Anyways, some true fact, I've gotta 351w and I was able to drag a 91 ****** 30ft while the car was in park.

I agree with Blade that the 302 can be built into a monster motor, up to 400 HP. I don't see very much differnece in Hp and torque between the 1990 302 and 351W, so the motor should pull the boat O.K. I would really be more concerned about the transmission. If you have the E4OD, it can be expensive to repair and towing anything with it can quickly **** it.

Whatever modle you have, make sure the fluid is good and at the proper level, and install an external tranny cooler if you don't have one already. The stock cooler is on the sides of the radiator and is not adequate. Towing will overheat the tranny and burn it up.

Hello the only difference between 302 and 351 heads is the size of the bolts that hold them on 302 has 7/16 and 351 has 1/2 inch so you can just drill them out and bolt them on or if your going the other way edelbrock and a couple others make a step washer kit that necks the 1/2 to 7/16 . There is no 351 custom theres a 351C that stands for cleveland which is the manufacturing plant that made it in cleveland ohio . Then theres a 351M that stands for modified . And theres the 351W that stands for windsor for the manufacturing plant in windsor ontario canada . Old guys that drink alot can be fun to listen too for entertainment but factual info youll want to double check yourself . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
