Is iit the large nut that sits deep inside the hub?

if so you have to buy a special socket ,called a lock nut socket .I found one at pep boys automotive it was around 14 bucks ,they are vehicle specific applications so look at the back of the package before you buy one and make sure it will fit your year bronco

hope this helped

good luck

If it is the kind with flat sides, you can try to wedge something inside between the flat side and the inside of the hub. Then put something between the lugs to turn the entire hub pulling the nut around the spindle with it. Just be carefull of threaded parts when doing this, the point is to get the nut off with out damaging other stuff you will then have to fix. I know this will sound dumb and I'm not trying to take a jab at you but you will probably want to replace the oddball stuff to match the other side when you put it all back together.

Good luck

Try a piece of wood (preferably a hard wood like oak) or maybe two pieces; one to fit down into the space up against the flat and one more to wedge in between the first piece and the curved metal wall to make it all tight. Depending on how tight the nut is on there, that may get it off.

I hope I described that well enough for you figure out what I mean. I've done it before and it's perfectly clear in my eyes :-B but it's hard to put into words.

One more idea. Since you dont plan to reuse the nut, it won't matter if the nut itself gets a little messed up. So...

If you have the room in there to manuver, try using a small cold chisel and a hammer to tap it in the direction you need to go. Set the chisel so it cuts into the edge of the nut very close to one of the points. (on the right side of the point assuming it is a right handed thread) When it's set then angle the top of the chisel slightly to the right and hit it towards the left. This method will mess up the nut but you plan to replace it any way.

From what you have described, I am not understanding why you cant just put a big ass socket on it. Is there more to it or do you just not have a socket big enough?

Sockets like that are obviously available somewhere since someone installed the nut in the first place and I used to use sockets like that to work on Army 2 1/2 tons. I don't know where to get one though and it would probably cost more than I would be willing to pay for a tool that you will only use once.

Congrats! And now you have another home-made special tool for your collection. I have a box full of homemade devices to get certain parts off of various vehicles I have owned. I think mechanical engineers should be forced to actually work on the stuff they design. Someday, my grand-kids will get to play "What the heck did he use this stuff for" when they divy up my stuff.
