Hello, I was just wondering if you could help me with any info, pertaining to modifying a 1983 Bronco with a 5.7 Hemi V8 engine? Any info would be much appreciated, Thank-you.

A 1983 Bronco aint gotta 5.7 Hemi V8 unless its been swapped in. A 5.7 Hemi is a Dodge engine, a '83 Bronco will have either a 302 (5.0) or a 351W (5.8). But if someone has swapped in a 5.7 Hemi any kinda hot rod parts are gonna have to be custom since its a computer controlled Dodge engine in a 83 Ford that never had anything like that in it.

Like Redneck86 said, A HEMI is a Newer Dodge motor (yes I know they were put in older cars too). I think you mean the Ford 5.8 liter motor. If that is indeed your motor you are in luck. The carbuerated 5.8 liter motors respond VERY well to upgrades. I would Say to start with a good Four Barrel Aluminum intake and A 650 CFM 4 Barrel Carb. These will gain you the performance and drivability that you are probably looking for and would only cost about 200 for the intake and 250-500 for the Carb.

Hey Guys thanks for responding, you guys are great...what I was asking is what type of modifications would be needed to do it, I am going to try & attempt this move but thought I would ask the pros first... Is it worth it? Advantages, disadvantages?

I know modifications will be needed I guess I'm more looking for some tips on how to minimize mistakes & make sure I don't forget about anything important etc.

Most important, would you guys do it, if you could? Once again, thanks for reponding & I will be getting rid of the engine in the Bronco, if anyone is interested, when said & done...pretty soon here. Please let me know...805 390 1580.

Nah man i would think its worth it, i would stick with a 351 Windsor small block V8. If you your gonna be be gettin a new engine anyway but yourself a long block and work on it while you still drive your truck. You can do alot to get power from a 351W, if you want fuel injection Holley pro-jection throttle bodies are a good think to look at, with a cam and aluminum intake that should get you around the 300-325 range. Then after that engine is build the way you want it pull your 351W out and replace it with your rebuilt one. That just what i would do...i wouldnt do the swap of puttin a computer contolled Dodge engine where a Ford engine with a 4bbl carb was.

I think I'd stick with a new 351W. You are going to have a lot of issues like, engine mounts, transmission hook up to the Ford drive train, etc. You will be a first as far as this forum is concerned, so if you do it, take lots of pictures and post a how I did it entry in the How To section of the forum. We are always interested in seeing what someone else has done.

Good luck on your decision,

:)>-

I would have to agree with the "stick with Ford SB" crowd here. Its a nice thought, but you will have nightmares. There are motor mount conversions, transmission adapters, transmission upgrades. And if you are building this Hemi (it makes no sense to go through the expense and hassle if you are not), you can't trust any of these things. So then you have to consider a Dodge tranny swap, which leads to a transfer case swap, which leads to custom drive shafts (you can't rely on the factory 351W shafts).

Either build the 351W hot, or find a recent 5.0 or classic 302 and build them, then drop it in. I'm not sure of the motor mount conversions and transmission bolt-ups there, but it should be a lot easier to figure that all out since its all one company.

A 351W is a pretty potent engine with alittle tweaking here and there....i run a 351W bored .040 over and an mild rv cam...with a few other goodies added and does just fine....it'll roast 33's with no problem and make a few bowties wonder what the he@@ just happend when all they see are taillights.....but if big block power is what you want there's no replacment for displacment....go with a 460 conversion it's a whole lot simplier....and they make a complete conversion kit for it.....great idea though.... :)>-

I do have a 5.7 Hemi crate motor brand new from Dodge. I also have the automatic traany to back it up also new. It is fuel injected but Edelbrock makes a carburated manifold for it. My dad's '03 Dodge is a standard cab shortbed and runs like a ***** ape with the hemi motor. Sorry moderators I know that was kind of a classifieds post.
