Hey Everyone;

So I finally started to re-assemble the Ford AOD transmission that I am rebuilding for my Bronco restoration and while it's easy to do on paper, I keep hitting problems that set me back. Cut some piston seals even when using the seal protectors, but other than the pain in the ass to find just a single replacement seal instead of a whole kit, I've made good progress and I am getting close to finishing it.

One problem, however that I can't seem to get over are the replacement of the cast iron hook end ring seals on the pump stator assembly. I have attempted to install 4 of them so far and have cracked every seal in the process. Does anyone have any information on how to do this without damaging the seals? I have heard that you can replacement them with teflon ones, but I also hear the cast iron ones sre better for performance so I'm not sure how to proceed. Any thoughts, opinions, solutions, tools, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I guess I am just an idiot because I figured it out finally. While you are squeezing the ring down to make the connection on the hook ends, press one end deep into the groove and let the other end float. As you squeeze it around toward the other end the hook simply slips over the opposite end and locks into place. Sorry for wasting a forum topic on this.

If anyone wants to me to list the other problems I encountered and the solutions I was able to come up with let me know and I will post it in this topic.

yo skeef2012,

Please do list your experiences with this rebuild.

and post pics too!

I had some rebuild article LINKs incl some on-line manuals, but the sites closed down over past 12 years and I can not retrieve them from www cloud.

So you would have the only on-line & free AOD Rebuild info available for Bronco!
