1979 f-150

is there a difference betwen a 1978 axle housing an a 1979 housing on a 9" ford 3/8" because my 1979 ford 9" 3/8" stud backing plate and retaner plate will not fit the axle housing i just bought . the backing plate an retaner plate 3/8" bolt holes off set to close on the new housing . I wonder if a 1979 Bronco axle housing is different from a 1979 f-150 axle housing help!

on a rear 9" axle in 78 it was 1/2" and in 79 it was 3/8" why i dunno
