This could be any Ford in the same body style.

A friend has a F350 that is doing the same thing,.. the mirror and door panel

a no longer firm/strong. Sure something is broken inside and ready to take

the door apart on the first decent day. But, I would like to know what I am

looking for and get the part in advance if possible.

The drivers door mirror doesnt bounce or move. The passenger mirror bounces

with any movement.

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

thanks

The side mirrors have a support arm that bolts to the inner skin of the door. This gives the mirror and the door support. Sounds like the inner support

brace on the mirror has broken. You can get new mirrors very cheap on e-bay. I paid 60 for a set of power mirrors with chrome backing. When you take the

door panel off look along the top of the door for a 8 or 10 mm bolt, that should be the problem. --Vince

the support bracket bolts to the inner door panel ? can that be repaired ?? is it metal or plastic ??

Or -- as you seem to suggest, I need to replace the whole mirror (with bracket)??

thanks

your insight is very helpful

yo!

Sorry for not replying to your IM or in this thread; my home PC was hit by a Virus that the lousy Norton AV identified but did Not stop from changing registry/start up settings, etc!!!! then we were away for 10 days...

here is info and many pics by bossind ... it is for da LED Type Turn Signal Mirror in his 96 but the process and mounting is same; scroll half-way dn page to "Locate the 8mm bolt that supports the mirror"; read on

Some inner door info & daigrams by Ford via Steve

as for "....and door panel ...no longer firm/strong..." do you mean da plastic inner panel? if so, ck for integrity/missing screws & nylon panel retainers (bossing refers to em as the plastic clips) - try not to break any, esp in cold weather....they are avail from some dealers; I have part numbers for some in my broncolinks.com site or ask here;

be back later...

You remove the plastic door panel. The inner metal portion of the door is revealed. If you look just under the quarter window you will see the bolt I was describing. This bolt goes into the support arm from the mirror assy. In order to remove a good working assy mirror you must not only remove the two outter screws holding it but also this support bolt. If you still need some help let me know and I will take pix of one of the Bronco's I have apart. --Vince

I think I have the picture and ready for taking it all apart

But, does anyone think this is repairable (weld or glue = metal or plastic)??

Or do we have a replacement mirror ready when taking this apart,..

thanks for ALL of your help

Most likely, the outer screws are loose, or rusted; or the 8mm bolt is loose or the hole is enlarged due to rust;

if mirror is in good enuf condition to re-use, have JB Weld or Billy Mays epoxy ready and a small, thin piece of aluminum or whatever (I use a beer can section cut-out and hammered into a flat section for these repairs thAngs) to use as a reinforcement plate under da 8mm bolt.

Get replacement 8mm bolt and/or screws from local hardware store; or all incl a mirror from any F series/Bronco of same years vintage and save $.

See bossind's pics and info.... it is a straightforward thAng to fix
