It is a type of hood scoop that mouts to the motor and sticks through the hood. When the engine is idling or revving it shakes...hence the name.

Found mostly on Mopar Muscle cars of the late 60's early 70's

Here is a pic from the gallery

screaminb, this is what a repop or reproduction Shaker assembly from a 1970 Ford Falcon GT looks like:

http://www.supermotors.org/getfile.php?id=...oggle=thumbnail

This is very similar to a what is found on the 70/71 Ford Mustang and Grand Torino muscle cars. Ford cars. Mopar? yes, some Barracuda's and Trans Am's also had Shakers, even the Pontiac GTO (goat). Even the Aussie's had'em on the Ford Falcon.

This is what it looks like in a Ford Bronco:

The Shaker assembly consists of a base for the air filter that fits over the carburetor, a mid plate that mounts on top of the base, which the Shaker scoop or air intake bolts to. The original design, still true to form today, was to allow cold air from the outside rather than from uner the hood. Since the muscle cars of the 70's put out around 450HP, they had a tendency to twist in the motor mounts or vibrate/shake. When the Shaker intake was mounted to the motor, with a cutout hood, the scoop would literally shake around. This mod is coming back into vogue, as many of the newer Mustang GT's have a Shaker, and Keystone makes a Shaker hood for 97-up F-150's. Even the show "TrucksTV" with Stacy David had a feature on a 99 F-150, Project Wild Horses or something like that. It had a supercharger, but also had a Shaker intake. NO one makes a hood or "kit" for the 80-86 Bronco, so I made my own. You can see some pics here:

Chevkiller, while my mods are secret and 'patent-pending', I can tell you that i modified the mid-plate adapter using parts from the 88 Bronco intake:

The secret part is what's under that black birthday cake on top of the blue base. It center's the Shaker scoop, alters the incoming airflow and keeps water out of the carb. JSM84

i hate to be that guy and correct you, but the shakers are not on the new GT mustangs.......they are on the Mach 1 Mustang.....while they are the same body style and platform, they are not the same, the GT uses a 4.6 liter SOHC motor, while the Mach 1 used the 4.6 liter DOHC motor, essentially the base cobra engine without the supercharger........yup im that guy

OK, I was refering to "new" as 03/04 at the time. I don't know if any of the "new" 07/08 mustang models come stock with a shaker kit, only that an aftermarket kit is available for some of them. N obig deal, JSM84

Yes, that was my point. too. The Classic Industries kit for the 'newer' Mustangs (before the redesign) ran about $1000, not including any hood mods like paint or graphics. And the Keystone Shaker hood for the 97-up F-150s was also around $1000 at the time. No idea what it runs now. The reason I went with the Ford Falcon GT Shaker kit from Rare Spares in Australia was the lower cost (arouns $400 US), and the fact that it was the closest fit to the 351W H.O. in the 84 Bronco. I had to modify the base thatsits on top of the carb as well as fab my own mid-plate adapter. That only took about 6 months to design. And now that I swapped to a 460, i'll have to re-design it all over again, JSM84
