Goto... MyControls... Personal Profile... Edit signature

and put information specific to your truck such as year, engine, EFI or carbed, size tires and type of trans if you know

This way we can be more specific in our suggestions

I just bought new plugs and wires.Local place told me that may be the case??Putting them in right now.
Do one plug, and one wire at a time so that you do not get them confused and out of order.

You should also use a little dielectirc grease on the boots to keep moisture out

I'll post more in a bit

Well my friend, I don't know how long you had your truck, but when you get done with it before you bring it back in for inspection, I can almost guarantee you that you will see a performance improvement and yuo will be pleased not only with yourself for troubleshooting it, and fixing it, but with your truck, because they are great when they are running properly.

While you are at it... (changing plugs and wires), take a look at your air filter, and your cap and rotor.

Your engine, fuel injectors, air fuel mixture ratio, ignition timing, and emision controls, air pump etc, are all controlled by your onboard computer. Fortunately your onboard computer has built in self diagnostics and it monitors the functioning of various sensors and actuators while you drive.

All you need to get the computer to go into self test mode and give you the results is a little 4 inch piece of wire, and the ability to count.

I put together a tutorial for testing for codes, and posted it in another thread for the first time, today (it starts at post number 4).

Please take a look at this thread, read through the tutorial and try testing for codes.

Then let me know how you made out.

Please give me a critical review, anywhere that it was not clear so that I can improve it for others.

Thanks

joe

It usually ain't legal but if you get a really small drill bit, a sixteenth should work and you drill a hole in the tailpipe (after the muffler) in the outside of a bend pointing the drill towards the output it can actually **** in clean air, allowing you to dilute your exhaust and get a much cleaner reading. Take it to a pep boys for inspection because they are generally the least thorough and won't notice the hack.

here's a crappy drawing, the blue line shows the angle and hole placement, the red arrows is direction of flow

This should really only be done as a last resort, when an engine is failing emissions, something is wrong, my truck passes with fake honeycomb cats, cheap dynomax mufflers (glorified glass packs) and the smog pump isn't hooked up to the exhaust and it still passes.

Another good thing to do is to run your truck really hard before you take it in so the cat will be hot and more effective. A lot of places wont let a car warm up before they start the test.
Thanx for all your help!!! I passed yesterday!!!I changed the plugs and wires and cleaned my K & N filter real good.I also put some octane boost in the tank. Then I ran it on the Parkway for 30 min.Well I guess all that worked...I Passed!!!! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
