Wassup fellas? I know that the differences between the two Broncos of these years are very minnor. Would anyone like to point out a few things? Were there a lot of changes of the outward appearance?

Today I bought my first Bronco. 1978 Ranger XLT, Manual Transmission, 137,000 Miles, Original Dark Cinnamon Glow paint scheme. I bought it from the original owner and it has been garaged and well maintained. Ill try to post some pics later today. Im 25 years old and am so excited that i have become an owner of one of the finest off-road vehicles ever made! Oh yeah, this truck was 4 years old when i was born!

Congrats on finding a clean vintage Bronco!!! Most noticeable difference between the 78 and 79 is round vs. square headlights. I've seen a few of these Broncos with different trim levels inside and out, optional A/C and different size/style radiators. Might even find a buckin' Bronco emblem on the fenders and factory tow hooks (my 78 has these). In any case, I'll think you'll love the new Bronco you got, I sure do. JSM84

Welcome, it's always nice to see another 78/79 enthusiast arrive. As JSM mentioned the round/square headlight deal is the most noticable. Rounds were available on Customs & Rangers for the first half of 78' and standard on XLT's, halfway thru the year they were made standard on all models and the same was true in 79'. I recently posted a thread detailing as many of the differences as I'm aware of & you can find it here if you're so inclined: http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12757 Most of the differnces are due to the fact that the EPA changed regulations between model years and the 78's were considered "heavy duty" vehicles in 78' but not in 79' so the 79's had to comply with emissions standards that 78's did not. There were also some minor trim differences, knobs, levers, dash lettering and such but the biggest differences betwen 78's & 79's will be the headlights and emissions gear. Be happy with your find. The 78/79's are far & away the largest & toughest Bronco's ever made. You have a bulletproof drivetrain and the largest body available, enjoy.

Bronco Bill, thanks for you input. Before I found this beauty I did a lot a research and reading and found your writings to be very informative, so thanks for that. I know enough about these things to be dangerous but it's only the beginning. Like i stated above im 25. I'm sure ill have questions down the road. I appreciate what I found and feel like a kid in a candy store when looking at LMC Truck or any other Bronco store.
