/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . If you are changing it due to a rusted out lower section, all you need is a new shell. Everything else can be transfered from the old tail gate to the new one, provided the part is not destroyed. Probably the only other thing you will want to do is replace the window seals as the old ones are probably dried out.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Tailgate, Bronco
Unlatch tailgate latch release handle (431C62) and lower tailgate. Disconnect left and right tailgate check cables (43052) at tailgate.
Disconnect tailgate window motor wire at connector. Pull lead wire from tailgate body rail.
Support tailgate while slightly open. Remove the tailgate counterbalance torsion bar body retainer from body.
Remove three nuts securing left and right tailgate hinges to body.
Remove tailgate from vehicle.
Installation
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order. Tighten the tailgate hinge-to-body nuts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft). Tighten the tailgate counterbalance torsion bar body retainer bolts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft). Tighten the tailgate check cable bolts to 28-40 Nm (21-30 lb-ft).

Swapping (t'gate differences between the years); "...Amazingly throughout the number of body style changes from 78 through 96, the tailgate remained nearly the same. You can swap tailgates between all of these years taking note of the following: I've broken down the 3 major changes into their respective years.
78-79 Type A;
80-82 Type B;
83-96 Type C; If your swapping within the same type it's just a direct swap.
If swapping A & B you have to switch the glass and glass support brackets;
If swapping B & C you have to switch latches and striker plates;
If swapping A & C you have to switch the glass, glass support brackets, latches & striker plates..."

btw, Latch Safety Switch "...The safety switch was moved from the tailgate handle to the left latch by 1983..."
