Hello all, I have more electrical issues in my bronco...

Hand brake light lights all the time, I disconnected that switch and tried with jumper wire to ground it => light still on!

Is it grouded type switch or something else?

Second (if we do not count all those other, speed sensor, electrical shift motor etc. related little things...) problem is that parking lights stopped working => fuses are ok, and bulbs are too. Do you have any ideas where the switch for these back up lights is located?

It does not help at all that I live in Europe => so we do not have any spare parts available here, everything must ordered from USA and many retailers would not send here /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

btw, enter your Bronco's info in signature for better replies in future...engine/tranny/Xfer case/locking hub types and any major mods (lifts, over-sized tires, SAS,etc.)

Brake, Turn, Hazard Lights Inoperative, Similar to 80-91 Bronco & F-Series;"...have a friend stand behind your truck and when you are pressing the brake pedal move the turn signal arm ever so slightly, if the brake like comes on, your switch is shorted out and must be replaced

The main job of the neutral drive switch (also known as neutral safety) is to keep you from starting your engine with your automatic transmission in a gear other that park or neutral, and has nothing to do with the computer. As a second job, this NDS circuit is used by the computer (connected to pin 30) so that EEC IV can increase engine idle speed slightly when not in neutral or park - this allows the engine to run smoother at these times. I'm not sure why it is used at all for a manual transmission. Anyway, it will pump out a KOEO code 67 if pin 30 is not connected to the NDS circuit. On '88 to '91 V8 EEC wiring, all you need to do is tee the computer pin 30 wire into the NDS circuit which goes from the transmission to the ignition switch, and no more code 67. That's what I did on mine, and the code went away. I was never able to start it other than in park or neutral even though I had pin 30 connected wrong at first..."

I added some information in to my profile...

Car is -88 but tranny is C6

...my mistake, what I was trying to mean is that handbrake light in dash is on all the time, brakelights in rear of the car is working just right /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Second issue: those white lights on rear won´t light on when transmission is in R position, what are those lights called? :blush: I know, stupid question, but english is not my "native language"

And more => today when I was going to work, I have to connect 4x4 on and still I was stuck ( here is snow just so much ), so I tried to connect 4L and after that everything gone wild ( It did not connected that 4 Low at all, light is blinking! But new thing is that there is now more that click underside dash when I try to disconnect 4x4 or Low area, both swiches are dead :blink: And while I was cruising in town, when I lift my foot of the gaspedal (engine idling, and tranny in D) car tries to connect that slow 4x4 on, even if there was speed about 30 mph and transmission was not in N postition!!! And it did that few times, I have to leave car in to my working place so that I would not brake anything in that transfer case (if it is not allready broken...)!

The lights in the back you are asking about are called Backup lights. A diagram of the circuit is attached. Do you have a volt meter? If you do, then turn the key to run and place the transmission in ® reverse. At the lamp socket check for 12 volts, (run a jumper lead all the way to the battery (-) rather than depending on the body metal for your ground). If you have 12V at the center contact in the light socket, you have a bad ground. If you do not have 12 volts at the center contact of the light socket, go back to the Pink with black stripe wire at the transmission switch. If no 12 volts there check the other side of the switch (purple with orange stripe). I think you get the idea. When you get 12V the problem is between that point and the lamp socket. It could be either a corroded contact in a connector, a broken wire or the switch. I did not include the fuse because it also provides power for the turn signals.

The emergency brake light is controlled by a switch mounted on the handle under the dash.

The problem with 4x4 sounds like it may be a problem with the transfer case motor.

Those are the Back-Up lights (also called Reverse Lights...); the circuit that turns on the reverse lights is controlled by the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS).

Check basics... pull bilbs and sk.. uses jumpers at battery to tect each bulb; inspect sockets for corrosion; place test light or better, a digital meter at sockers and test for 12v DC at sockets when inreverse w/engine on.. BE CAREFUL!..etc,

Then ckeck voltage at NSS

Some switches have 6 pins... if your's has the 6 pin conn...

"TOUCH DRIVE" - NEW ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE FOR 1991

A new electronic control module has been installed on the 1991 model Ford trucks with "Touch Drive," built after 8/6/90. The new module features a different computer logic to control shifting.

With the previous module, it was possible for the driver to select 4L directly from 2WD. However, the control module actually shifted the vehicle into 4H first, then checked to see if the vehicle was stopped and that the automatic transmission was in neutral (or the manual transmission clutch was disengaged). If these conditions were not met, the actual shift wouldn't take place. Instead, everything would be made ready for the moment when the shift could be completed. This was called pre-staging.

During pre-staging, the Low Range light flashed. This confused some customers. In addition, pre-staging and the flashing light sent confusing signals to the new E4OD transmission's electronic controller.

The new module solves both these problems. With the new logic, if the driver selects 4L when in 2WD, nothing will happen, because the transfer case controller ignores the 4L signal. The driver must make the shift to 4H first, then (while stopped) shift to 4L.

I´ll just have to wait about week and then I can get my bronco in to my garage and check these few things...

Today I was able to get car in garage and this back up light problem was solved, that switch (NSS) is little bit jammed with dirt, it hardly moves, even those small plastic "dents" inside that moving ring were ripped off, there is now wonder why it wont move and light those lights

I ordered from Rockauto.com some parts (they sell to Finland), but that NSS switch is with 4-pin connector and in car there is connector with 8-pin (six wires used), I´ll have to contact them and try to replace this part.

Is there some kind of modell year specific changes in these NSS switches? I ordered these parts to my 1988 bronco.

I replaced transfer case motor with new one and all shifting problems was gone! Also replaced that handbrake switch and light in dash works just fine!

Finally driving with my bronco makes me smile again, thak you all /

That fordparts.com catalog tells that there is back up lamp switch awailable which is not NSS!?

Here is few pictures of my NSS cables uder the car...

Do you have any other ideas where I can buy correct NSS?

Do you have any wiring information for about those colors (and is there place for this fordparts back up light switch in every C6 tranny), or os this switch for manual tranny?

There is 6-wires in car and these aftermarket NSS has only 4-wires (+ connector is much smaller like inch vs. 1/2 inch), or do you have information what those 2 extra wires supposed to do?

yo, The NSS contains the back-up lamp circuit.

I don't know why Ford and others have it listed seperately?

I just found out that Ford used the electric Push Button Wiring in Broncos for about mid-year 87 for both the push button and manually shifted transfer cases. So the Push Button NSS is used in the manually shifted cases, but only 4 pins out of the 6 are used; the other 2 pins are used in the Push Button tranfer case for Electric Shift Control Module and not used in the manually shifted cases

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2.Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.

3.Remove the downshift linkage rod return spring at the low-reverse servo cover.

4.Coat the outer lever attaching nut with penetrating oil. Remove the nut and lever.

5.Remove the 2 switch attaching bolts, disconnect the wiring at the connectors and remove the switch.

6.Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the switch and tighten the bolts to 55-75 inch lbs. (6.2-8.5 Nm).

7.Remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle.

8.Connect the negative battery cable.

yo, Here is the 1356 Electric Shift Wiring Diagram in an 87; "...looks same as the 4x4 by Ford diagram (for 92-96) exc for the; power from Fuse 6 (15 amp) to "ElECT SHIFT CONTROL MOD" WHT-PPL and CB 12 (30amp) to "ELECT SHIFT CONTROL MOD" BLK-WHT; SEE A7 and A8 in the 4x4 diagram,,, it shows those two wires BLK-WHT as BK/W from SHIFT MODULE to P1 BATTY and and WHT-PPL as W/P to P2

It seems that correct NSS to my car is what "everybody" (BroncoGraveyard, RockAutoParts etc) sells to 1990 => model bronco.

Or atleast connector is similar...

My car is defitinely 1988 (vincode).

SMP NS92 from auto value, etc is reported by other Bronco Ownevrs to be same as the SW 2120 (see my prev reply) and your Bronco's NSS, CORRECT?

and the CONNECTOR is the SAME, CORRECT?

I just sent e-mail to jcwhitney and that seller on ebaymotors, lets hope that one or the other can send to Finland...

This SW 2120 Motorcraft is discontinued buy Motorcraft and for example fordparts does not know it anymore and Rock auotparts can not have it anymore and that last link you posted says it´s special order and I am pretty sure when they make that order from ford/motorcraft they can not have it either, so let´s hope that jcwhitney can send it to Finland! By the way, I asked local (here in Finland) Standard Motor Procducts retailer for that part, answer was: they can not have it anymore!!!
