My '96 had the auto hubs, so I had to get the conversion kit as well. I know everything comes with instructions, but are they fairly clear and easy to follow? I've never played with locking hubs before.

Does anyone know of a link to decent instructions? I checked meisk's website and also the how to section on this site - was unable to find a link to show the auto 3 screwers swapped out to manuals using the conversion kit.

Also,

Warn's instructions are good, exc. they omit the wheel brng lock nut torques.

one thAng - 95/96 factory 3 ***** auto hubs are revised from earlier years and you did right to get a conversion kit to do it.

And, too many articles show diff. specs...must get to everyone to clear this up soon

Auto Hub Swap (6 *****) to Mile Marker on a 96 by ScottMoore (Big Bronco)

He shows the torque wrench needed for the bearing lock nut removal and install; but no torque; to remove the lock nut you can use a small drift/punch/flat bladed screwdriver to remove it since it is torqued to just 1.8 N-m (16 Lb-In), or loan from parts store (AZ does) the Front Bearing Locknut Socket (incl. new 95-96); w/pics by OTC via autobarn.com

& to install the new manual hub's lock nut you Will need: Front Bearing Locknut Socket pic (4160) for 86-94 Manual Hubs by NAPA or AZ, etc. http://www.autopart.com/TOOLS/TOOLSMAIN/tool/T_4160.htm

Fellas, thanks for your help. Meisk, you are the man! Great write ups. I think I can get it done now - we'll know soon enough!

The things you have stored up are truly amazing

Alright - they're in. The only possible issue I have is that the little c clip and the grooved washer will not fit in outside of the bearing nuts like Froggman's instructions for his '93. With those installed there, the hub body sat too far outboard and there wasn't room to attach either the large outer hub clip or the small clip on the spindle. Warn's instructions didn't say to include them with the new hubs, so I guess everything's alright. I tested and drove the truck and everything seems good!

I did purchase a set of probes (they look like heavy duty dentist tools) and that helped quite a lot to get the big outer clip off and also the little locking tab for the factory spindle nut.
