oil filter kinda fits

my 94 EB bronco's oil filter just hits the back side of the cut out for it....any one else???? its late and ill take some pictures tomorrow...but if u have this problem u will know what im talking about...the filter just need to be an inch or so shorter or i need to cut out a notch so it will fit.

I don't know if they had them yet on the '94 models, but my '96 has an oil cooler on it that requires a slightly shorter filter than the usual Ford filters. If you have it, it will be a square block that sits between the filter and the engine with two water hoses coming off of it and connecting to the lower radiator hose. If you have this and you are trying to use the longer filter, you will probably have clearance issues.

If this is a problem that has gotten gradually worse with time, then Seabronc is likely dead on the money. I had an AMC Eagle (yeah it was a long time ago) that would punch a hole in the oil filter because one of the motor mounts had colapsed and allowed the motor to twist too much under load.

If you were looking for a shorter filter for ease, use a filter from a Dodge V8 like a 95 Ram per say.. Wix number will be something like a 55085, parts master 61085, carquest 85085 etc. It is the same thread and seal size but about an inch shorter over all.

Ahhh, NOW I know what we're talking about. Those filter mount oil-coolers were standard on cruisers, just never seen one on a Bronco. I'd have to second the motion that Seabronc is right.

Eagle, I had one of them too. Was yours the wagon or SX4 ?

I had an oil cooler on my Bronco but it wouln't stop leaking, even the new one I had so I tossed it and I've noticed that the filter thread sizes are both WAY different. Without the cooler it's Motocraft FL-1A I think and with the cooler its sa-2 or something, the same filter that's on the 4.6L motor.

Yeah, I think Seabronco is probably right, too. I think my oil cooler was part of the towing package so not all '96 Broncos would have had them.

My Eagle was the wagon, that goat would have climbed a tree if you could get the tires to stick. It was not actually mine, it was the family car when I was a teenager back in the early 80's.

use oil filter FORD FL-820S u can buy one at autozone for like $4.50.... thats what i use and mine hits the frame alittle. with new mounts. prob have to loosen the mouts again and twist the motor alittle .

DAMN Boy, we've got some $hit in common <grin>. I think I was 14-15 when my Old Man bought ours for Ma. That Eagle was the first thing I ever took 4-wheeling because I didn't have aything else & BOY did they holler when it came home covered with cow $hit. Say what you want about AMC but that car/truck/whatever took one **** of a beating from me. Glad to see someone else remembers it (and I'm even MORE glad to not feel *quite* so old). He beat my a$$ for bringing it home all covered with $hit like that, and this was back in the day before they frowned upon beating kids in that fashion. Taught me right up front, you gotta pay if you wanna play. Ours was an 84' Wagon. I always thought it could do better if you could have figured a way to lift it for 33's. I think that's the same filter I had to use for my 460 swap, since the normal filter would hit the ps gearbox. Can't tell from the pic what that filter is hitting, but a hammer does wondrs on the frame or cross member. I had to notch mine quite a bit. JSM84
