Well its starting to get warm out and I need to get that top off of my bronco. Right now I can't get the window down. I'm pretty sure it is the rear window switch on the dash. I was just wondering how do I take this switch out so I can replace it?

The swtich looks like this.

http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-34577_...ash__bronco.htm

There are two little screws that hold it in place.

To get better access to those screws, remove the section of dash panel that holds the switch.

First remove the knobs for the headlights and the wipers.

To remove the knobs; If one were to look at the **** as if it was a wheel, and the metal plunger is the axel. There is a little knotch cut into the **** where one can insert a small screwdriver to depress a clip that holds the **** onto the axel.

Remove the knobs, and pop the dash panel off.

good luck

Here's a thread on how to test the swithc once you get it out.

Thanks Joe. Does the dasboard panel just pop off with a ***** driver or is there some super secret to finessing this little peice of plastic off? The **** to my light switch is superglued on so it might take a little hard pulling to take it off. It kept falling off so I used superglue to keep it on.

Also the keyhole in the back doesn't work either. It has never worked. But I do know for sure that the window components are still operational.

Ohhhh man... I don't want to be responsible for this one...

I am pretty sure I just pulled on the bottom of it with my fingers, and it popped off. Maybe I was lucky, I know that i didn't use a screwdriver. I also didn't learn about the little holes at the bottom of the knobs until I pulled them off. So good luck! IF you break sh*t, like I often do, don't blame me  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I'll be hiding.

BTW.. once you swap out the switch, take the old one apart it is pretty interesting.. the guy who figured that out must have been trippin or somethun.

BTW.. You do know that your key has to be in the ignition and turned to either ON/run or Accessory for the dash switch to work ... right?

Yes I know that. I'm going to grow out my fingernails for a week so I can pop the plastic piece out easier. I also have a terrible habit of breaking things, but if I do break anything, dont worry, I wont come after you. or will I? ha ha!

I've been chasing down an ignition problem on my 88 recently and have had to get into the dash. There are two pieces that cover the lower section under and adjacent to the steering wheel column. The one on the left, with the headlight ****, wiper ****, and rear window switch, comes off first. Once the knobs are off... super glue asside...LOL, it just pops out, there are no screws. I found it easiest to just grasp the bottom of it gently and wiggle it until it pops loose. The bottom releases first and that makes it easier to get the top of the panel to pop free. Once the panel is off you have to unplug the electrical connector for the rear window switch. Then it is free. Once it is off it reveals one ***** directly under the steering column that holds the right side panel on. The rest of the right side panel also "pops" out like the left side did, except for that one *****. I was able to do it without finger nails, never had long nails...LOL.

There is also a sensor in the tailgate that will prevent the rear window from operating if it thinks the tailgate is open. Try leaning on the tailgate hard when using the key. It may just need to be cleaned or replaced for the window to work again. That was my experience anyway.

Good Luck.

Hehehe... I'm thinking that soon you'll be looking to buy a new light switch too!

The first time I pulled my tailgate switch, I did somehow manage to do my contorsionist thing and get in ther under the dash and pull the bottom ***** out, I snapped the top one off (ooops!)

I just ran out to my truck to try this.

Pull your wiper **** off,

pull your headlight switch out as far as it will go

loosen the plastic panel buy applying straight out pressure with your finders (both top and bottom)

It looks like you can get to the top ***** with an offset phillips screwdrive, OR IF the FORCE is with you, you may have enough play in the wires to rotate it clockwise around the light switch and get at it without breaking the light ****.

Good luck!

hmmm....I've pushed on it before, but maybe i'm not doing it hard enough. Last week I got it working for a while, but then it quit working again and was stuck in the down postion. Then it started to rain. If I can at least get the keyhole to work then I would be a happy man. I got the tester out and started testing the voltage in the fusebox and at the wires at the tailgate. I am getting voltage....sometimes. I need to get a new tailgate anyway (the old one is just shot.) Thanks for the help.
