I'm on a quest to find a perfect bronco. I'm serchin the boston area and its real tough to find anything without rust thats not one of the newer models. i was told that they stopped making the top removable after 93 and i want the dam top to be able to come off but its hard to go back that far without gettin allota rust and miles. Engine work i'm cool with but the body work for me is gonna be a pain in the ass. i'm lookin at a 93' eddie bauer right now thats only got the typical rear wheel and tailgate rust, the chasis are fine.. im likin the deal im lookin at but i havent gone to drive it yet. I'm wonderin if u could tell me whether this one would have the removable top or not for sure and exactly which ones do and which ones dont, or if what i was told was myth. thanks and long live the 4x4.

also was this the year (93) before the 25 hp jump in the 5.0 302 or the year of?

heres the one im lookin at...obviusly stock..least til i get ahold of itBronco5.jpg

It's only a myth about the hardtop not being removeable after 1993. All fullsize Broncos from 78-96 have the "convertible" option. You won't find an aftermarket softtop or cover for models after 91, but that's only a safety issue due to the 3rd brake light and rear seat belts mounting to the removeable top.

As for the engine HP numbers, here's a link:

I don't want to steal this thread, but I've got a 94 Eddie Bauer and just purchased a soft top from a friend for a great price. I haven't actually picked it up from him yet. I was planning on putting a roll bar in the back to mount the seatbelts to so I could use the soft top. I think his came from an 89 or 90 Bronco. Will this top even fit on my Bronco? If not, you'll see a soft top for sale on here soon.

All Fullsize Bronco's have a removable top.

92-96 have the seatbelt hangers for the rear

belts mounted in the top itself, therefore making it illegal

in most states to carry passengers in the rear while the top is off.

EB. The top will work, and the cage belt mounts are a good idea.

I am also adding mounts to mine when I build my cage.

Right the softtop will fit. As for the rear seatbelts, if your state law requires them to be buckled up or you want to provide'em for the passengers, either use the removed shoulder belts as lap belts, or mount the older-style lap belts i ntheir place. If you need the third brake light, you ca nmount one to the external spare tire carrier, or to the back edge of the cab. A rollbar mount for the front seatbelts is also a good idea, and what I plan to do for my racing harnesses when I finish with the new seats and cage kit install. These shoulder belts or harnesses should never be mounted to the floor, as they may compress your spine in a collision.

I picked up the soft top last night and am very pleased, although my wife is going to make me sell it. It is a Skyler black tonneau style top with the tinted rear window. I bought it without looking at it, but was hoping for either the fastback or a full box type cover where the back seat could still be used with it on. My question is in the Skyler homepage they list a different item number for 80-91 Broncos and 92-96 Broncos. What would be the difference they made in the top? I've notice other manufacturers don't list anything after 91 and probably because of seat belts in hard top and upper brake light. I'm just curious. My top will fit a 92-96 Bronco according to them. Here's a pic and link to Skyler. Someone has already asked me about buying the top so he gets first dibs. If he doesn't buy it I'll post it next week.

All bronco tops are removable, the third brake light, and seat belts are the issue. soft tops will fit, but by "LAW" are not recommended for liability reasons. Federal law only requires lap belts for rear passengers. Fast Back soft tops dont allow rear passengers any way(usless they are less than 3' tall). So go for it.

if you lean the rolbar back like 4" and stretch the top over it, you will have enough room for rear passengers

$-) Thanks for the input gang. I just purchased a 93 Bronco and am eager to get started on modifications - I will add some pics later. I am new to this site and new to owning a Bronco, but so far I am pumped.

Just one thing to keep in mind is that the bolts holding on the top require a torx tamper resistant bit to remove, I believe the size is a T40 which you can order from snap-on tools website.
