I purchased another Bronco after all these years. I sold my 85 Bronco a few years ago and went thru a ton of different toys and always wanted to get back into another Bronco. Well I found a super clean 89 XLT Bronco and I will be back on this forum daily, as you all helped me so much in the past with my old Bronco.

Here is my new toy

First thing im working on is, the steering wheel is slightly wobbly probably due to the previous owner pulling himself into the cab, seems like a common problem. Im pretty positive its the upper bearing in the column and was gonna order one, but remember that in my 85 it was a PITA and I ended up replacing the entire column. Does anyone else suffer with a slightly loose wheel? Mine isnt bad at all but im very picky and want everything tight as it was when it rolled off the assembly line

I have squeally upper Bearing in my 96, but no loose str wheel.

Ask local yard if they know of any column rebuilders in your area or can get one in VG condition for around $100.00 with $ back no Qs asked

If I remember right, there is a bolt or two in there that tend to loosen up. Pull the wheel and check the mounting bolts for the tilt mechanism.

Good luck,

gentlemen, thank you for the info and links , I pulled the wheel and tightened everything I could, I also installed a Grant GT wheel and tightened that SOB so tight that the wheel would not turn haha, so I had to back it off alittle but just about all of the play is out of the column, still a very little bit but not anything to make me really wanna go crazy with it. I found a column used for $99 at a local wrecking yard but who knows if the bearings are any better in that, seems like a common problem

A tilt steering wheel does have a small amount of slop, you need it to take the pressure off the tilt gears when you want to change the angle of tilt.
