I'm trying to replace the yoke on my '79 Bronco and to order a new one the parts store is telling me to take it off so they can measure it. Where do they measure it at to get the right measurement? Can I measure it without taking it off? There is a 3.5" or a 3 7/8 ". Where is the measurement taken?

It should be from needle bearing cap to cap or across the universal joint.

Well besides that they need the spline count, inner shaft size so you know which seal to use. Makes it easier than looking in the book. They sound like a lazy ass part store. There's only a few u-joint sizes, 1310 (1/2 ton), 1030 (3/4 ton), 1350 (1 ton) for our rigs.
