Ok, first new to site (has great info), infact new to broncos. Ive got a '87 bronco, 302 pretty much everything is stock. Previous owner says has newer motor and replaced steering column for some reason.

Now, I have had problems with truck dieing for about a week, kinda have an idea what to check for from reading the old threads. But last night was driving and it died in drivethru, tried to restart, nothing. I had to call my little bro to get his <gasp> chevy to tow me home-wont live that down for a long time.

Now after work today, still is dead, picked up new battery, nuetral cable(had big cut in it) and starter switch. None helped. This is what has got me, when turning key nothing happens at all-this is why i replaced switch. everything off switch is dead, no guages, heater, stearo, but can roll down back window with key and all lights work-drivers window still down-parked on the street. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I get no sound from starter, i think they click even when there bad, right? could it be the starter relay? how would i check it? Im about 99% sure i installed the switch right have put them in my moms '90 f150- seems to go through those alot!

Any input would be greatly appreciated, my last car was a h@@da c@#$c and its battery blew up on me after replacing the motor, that pos is on non-op till i can figure that mess out and burn sell or give it away, that was a month or so ago.

First of all Welcome!

Can you check to see if you have power to the ignition switch?

If not, I believe there is a fuseable link to it.

If there is power to it, we have recently discussed how to jump the solenoid, and test/troubleshoot for breaks in the connection in the starter circuit, one of the possible breaks is a bad neutral safety switch. BTW... do you have a manual or auto transmission?

There are two fuses for the rear window, one is for the key in the tailgate (which is always hot), the other gets power through the ignition switch. That same fuse also gives power to the driver and passenger door windows, so you will probably find that the rear window will not work with the dash switch.

Hope this helps.

Let us know how you make out.

While I don't have a wireing diagram for an '87 listing ground locations, on a '92 and newer the ground for the ignition switch is located "behind the bottom of the left cowel panel"

A weak ground could also give you an intermittent problem.

welcome.gif To the zone!

I'd say you are on the right track with the switch. Like Bronco Joe said, test for power then let us know so we can help you figure this out.

Ok, cool. yeah the dash switch doesnt work. Sorry it as an auto trans, and kinda was thinkin fuse link, just dont know how to tell if there are bad. I've got both haynes and chilton manuels for it but couldnt make heads or tails of the wireing harness. Ill check for power and such after work today and get back to you.

Thanks alot!
