I just bought an 89 full size bronco with a 302 EFI 5.0. I dont know who had it before the guy i bought it from but damn. its a wiring nightmare. it had all kinds of stereo equipment at one point had a CB radio and antenna wires.. wow wires in the engine compartment have wire nuts on them and theres like 9 wires on the starter syllanoid that i have no clue what they go to. Im wanting to just buy a new wiring harness but they are EXPENSIVE. i was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips to maybe bypass buying a new one. what is the most cost effective approach. any help is greatly appreciated.

First off...

welcome.gif to the Zone!

If it is a bad as you say, you are in for a long project...

First thing I would do is get a good wiring schematic, The ones in the back of the Haynes manuals are ok but you would be better off getting a factory shop manual and a multimeter.

Use the schematics and find out which wires are not original and and mark the "aftermarket" wires. Test the extra wires for power and grounds. I.E. if the wire doesn't have power on it, switch to the continuity tester and see if it is a ground wire. Don't forget to check the wires with the headlights, ignition, etc.

If the wire has power, you need to trace that wire back to the source.

Keep in mind, you may want to add fog / driving / off road lights so use your head before you start ripping wires out.

If you are confused, take pictures and post up here on the forum and we will be more than happy to help you as much as we can.

Good luck...

TIME FOR LONG TUBES! any recomendations on exhaust systems for a 302 that are cheap would help now.. thanks guys!
