So I've never had a problem with my 79. I started it today and was driving down the block, all of a sudden it started cutting out and died. So if I floor the gas it will start and idle at around 800rpm with the gas floored. As soon as you take your foot off the gas it dies. I pulled the fuel filter and it's not clogged. The carb seems to be getting plenty of gas. With the throttle wide open and it idleing it doesn't seem to be missing or out of time. I don't know!!! I guess amybe it's time to rebuild the carb. It just seems weird to go from working great to this in one days time.

Im not 100 percent sure but maybe you have a problem with the accelerator pump? Maybe somebody else will see the post and help you out. Look down the carb with motor not running and pump the accelerator and see if fuel squirts out.

It squirts fine. I decided to just rebuild the carb. We'll see!

I had that problem in an old maverick quite a few years back, turns out it was the rubber hose before the fuel pump, it was old and soft and it would collapse from the suction of the pump. Just a thought, maybe you could check that out
