Hello guys.

Need expert opinions!!

I finally got an EB. :) started the frame restoration with sand-blasted frame, body work (not painted), original engine back on the bay and the body is back on the frame with 1 inch body lift and no more rust.

My original intentions were to leave all the driveline alone and put it back together. But as many of you I started contemplating some modifications for a better use of my EB. I currently have an option to buy a 1997 Explorer that was rolled over on an off road trip. The truck still runs and it has 5.0 engines with gt40 heads.

Q: Is the explorer a better donor than a mustang?

Q: If I am buying a donor car, what model and year would be ideal to buy for a "eassier/convinient" conversion?

I am trying to get the most out of the donor vehicle (Wiring harness, complete engine accessories, ECU etc..)

Mine is a 72 EB (Original V8 w/ 3 spd) Trying to go Fuel injected, Auto, 4spd off-road toy but also street friendly to show it off on the weekends LOL.. FYI 6k invested and trying to keep it under 15K. Location: El Paso, TX.

Ive always known that the explorer has the sought after gt40 heads but I have never heard of anyone being impressed with the power output of an explorer. The 5.0 H.O. in my opinion is way more desireable. The 5.0. H.O. with gt40 heads, now were talking.

yup, thats the ticket. Your ideal donor will be a 89-92-3 (forgetting the exact years right now) Mustang. It is the mass air system and they run the chance of being the ** system. You don't have to stay away from the 87 and older EFI systems, but they are the less desirable speed density system. I have the SD on mine and have never had problems, but the MA/** setup is an eye opener. I drove a fresh 5.0 rebuild the other day with MA/** and it was very impressive.

The mass ar setup is from 88-93. Good info on fuel injection swap @ fordfuelinjection.com & bronco.com. Just in the process of tearing out the engine & wiring form my 90 mustang doner. Picked up the whole car for 1200. This is where it get tough. Currently i am just ripping out every wire that I can find & labeling all the connections as i go. I know that there are a lot of extra wires that I don't need. Anyone got any suggestions on how to strip down the harness? Also does anybody know how to get @ the computer easily on this year stang?
