Hey Guys:

New to the forum - just wondering what type of oil filter and oil you guys use for your engine.

I bought a FRAm Syntetic Oil filter and was thinking about going with either Quaker State Full Synthetic or Castrol

What are you guys using and how long do you typically go without an oil change.

Is it true that if I use the Full Synthetic Oil I can go over 10,000 KM before changin the oil

TIA

P.S I have a 1992 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer Edition V8 5.8L

I'd stick with real oil not this synthetic, the truck runs like sh*t if you don't continue to use it in the future. I usually go with a Purolactor Pure 1 filter and Penzoil.

I hate to disagree with my bud firelt90bronco, but Penzoil is about the worst sh*t you can put in your engine. I'd go Quaker State, non-synthetic, 10W40. I also use a product called Lucas Oil Stabilizer...use one quart in place of one of the quarts of Quaker State. I'm now using K&N Oil Filter, though I used to use Purolator or Napa Gold. I've only started using the Lucas for the last couple oil changes...but it is some good stuff. I've got over 172,000 miles on my 5.0 EFI, and all I've ever used is Quaker State 10W40. I haven't had to do anything to the engine internally. It roars like a beast. Stay away from synthetic crap. Change your oil at least every 4000 miles with Quaker State (and I know it says it can go beyond that, but don't push it).

Yeah,

Stay away fr. that Penzoil.

Lots of the new trucks come factory with synthetic. Eng. runs free'r & milage is improved.

Long story short, all the syn's. are the same formula.

I use Castrol. (Mobil 1 was the orig.)

Lucas is a form of syn. (fine as an additive)

If you want to try full syn. ...go for it... won't hirt a thing.

If you don't like it...switch back.

There was a guy I used to know that said his dealership ( or whatever) used to test different oil in different engines and Pennzoil left the nastiest sludgiest crap he'd ever seen in an engine. He recomends quaker or mobile. He also told me that in newer vehicles synthetic is just fine to run. It's not worse than regular oil, but in some cases better that regular oil. Don't use it in an old engine with the old pistons and rings because the synthetic oil is so slippery that it can get by the rings and foul out plugs real easy, although otherwise won't hurt anything else. As far as the oil and filter change intervals, it's one of the most important things you can do regularly. Even if the oil was good for 10 or 15 thousand miles......personally, I wouldn't trust any filter that long. But of course living in the deserts of New Mexico, that's just the way I would do it.

Bob,

Lucas is 100% petroleum based. Check out the label on any Lucas product.

Valvoline petro based 10W-30. 230k later the engine still has great oil pressure and burns no oil.

I've run Valvoline before in other cars. Seems to need changing more often. It works great in race cars because they're always changing the oil. I don't know...six of one half dozen of the other. Every vehicle in my family is running Quaker State...and no oil burn or engine probs.
