Just bought this 1986 Bronco 5.0l with manual trans, UPDATE - Couple more questions, Help!

Go in under it and you,ll see where mud lays at. That is a good places to clean it good and prevent mud from hanging in a area and you might have to make some drain hole or open up some more then they are. Lift the carpet near the vent areas and check for rust. The vent stop up and when the do. Water starts coming in through the vent under the carpet. I posted pictures of my 78 . How I cured it.

Sorry, when you say vent what do you mean by that? I did check under the floor plates on driver/passenger and it was damp/dirty but no rust.

Well where the wipers are. You can see vents and if you look down it. You might see leaves ,twigs and dirts. That travels down the sides---behind the fenders --in front to the doors. Looking behind the fender. You will see a bulge sticking out. That is where the leaves and stuff accumilate --with dirt. After so long of time. tHE BULGE over flows and comes in through your vents down the sides --under the carpet. I have pictures posted what I did. Nothing stays in mine now and the floor stays dry. During heavy rains you will notice it went.

The VENT is where you can let fresh air in. They are located in the side kick panels. One is behind the emergency brake.

The other one is on the passenger side.
Also on the back. You can get under it and look up toward the tail light area. The lowerer area of the rear quater panel section is a good place for dirt to accumalate and rust out that area and also in behind the plastic piece around the rear tire . . You might also want to check the chaulk around the rain gutter. With age it will dr7y up and crack and cause water to get in behind areas around the doors. .

I think it was gacknar? of full size bronco did a comparison of rust bullet and por 15. I don't think he was impressed with the por 15 either.

My situation was maybe a little different. I did the windshield frame. followed the directions, used the metal prep and marine cleaner. Painted it. Installed the windshield.
couple weeks later the windshield was leaking.
When preparing to seal it up I gently pushed on it and it came right out. The paint did not stick to the POR 15. Paint was stuck to the urethane on the windshield. Por 15 stuck to the truck.
Called them. They said I need to scuff it. Originally since the time frame between application and paint was so short the instructions said no need for any other prep just paint.
Tried again, same result, going down the road the windshield was letting air in. You could hear it and feel it. Again, paint lifted right off the POR 15.
Called them back.
Ground it all out and started over from scratch.
Again, 2 weeks.

Went through this like 3 or 4 times. Windshields aren't cheap. Geez the urethane wasn't cheap, luckily I didn't break one. I hated ******** around with it.
Finally sanded all the POR15 away, primed and painted like normal and no more problems.

So it may be a good product in certain applications but not for every application.
Tiha alot of people don,t pay attention,but the weather has alot to do with everything. That humidity --to some who don,t know what it is--is moisture--fine water and high humidity--FORGET ABOUT PAINTING--BLUEING--VARNISHING ANDTHING that has metal on it and like you said the product did not work for you.After you did everything buy THEIR instruction. Some stuff is no good. period. I started to buy some,but hearing your hard work and others--I,ll listen to you. Thank you .

Dont know if you mentioned it but how many miles on that bad boy. I had the same year and engine and the popping occurred because the timing chain jumped a tooth . The gear they used was nylon crap and at 120k it fully went. Chain and steel gear set dont cost that much. Just in case. If it is then you should consider changing out the timing chain cover and water pump too.

Oh Ok yeah I know exactly what you are talking about. I actually noticed the other day some water pooled up on the driver side floor board. Not a lot but a noticeable amount came to conclusion it was leakin from the vent there. Looked like it was coming through the wall somewhere to the right of fuse box. Didn’t know the reason for the vents, are you saying these trucks have open/close floor vents? My K5 blazer had those

How did you diagnose that problem? It shows 93k but no idea if it’s rolled or not. The backfire is pretty bad at times other times it doesn’t happen. Timing has been set to 11. Other then that nothing’s been changed beside fuel filter which looked good and fuel came out clean.

there is a open line on the intake manifold which I am trying to figure out where it goes. Pictures are in original post. I noticed when I put my finger over the hole it dropped the RPMs down and motor sounded a lot smoother. I’m a new guy with all this so it’s gunna take me awhile to really get down in the bones and figure out what to do.
Just really tryna figure out where to start, I believe the first thing is replace spark plugs and wires

With a motor with a good many mile on it. You can,nt tune one with timing ling--because of the wear of parts. Its best to set it buy ear. Since you set it. Does it seem like it lost power? If so--try tuning it buy ear..Good luck.

I like the style alright. 1st step 4 me is a slippery seat cover. Don't like the cloth, velcro like this - even less.
Mechanical? - not much as it's all transitional. usa mrkt tryin to wrk it all out. Late 90s bronk w/the 300 is the one 4 me besides my 1st gen. This gen hada 4.9 too so may B I'd put the AOD in & drive on (& off rd). Put ina x-fer w/a 4 to 6:1 4w low. Have not researched that for adaptors, which x-fer, etc @ this point...

yes they have a vent right behind the emergency brake. I have pictures posted hear .What I did to my 78 bronco and it solved the problem. I can put my fist through it .

Also their should be a screen wire over it. To prevent mice and snakes from coming in.

Mine is a 78 and if yours has a vent their. I,d check it oyt. Whatch it ESPECIALLY DURING DOWN POURS.

I’ll go measure now. Got my order in today from LMC Truck. Got some weather stripping for back window (active leak inside tailgate) and a motor from Napa (Chinese).

also got some seat belt buckle holders, bulbs for overhead lamp and some other little doodads

Do y’all recommend replacing back window motor with new or repairing OEM? I figured since the new motor was $40 it was worth just replacing. But then started to think and how everything is made in China now blah blah blah
I,d take the old one apart and check it out first. It might just need cleaned up and ground cleaned good or a wire needs fixed. Also I read where some side window motor for the doors are the same. Can,t remeber which ones. When you mess with MADE IN CHINA--your asking for troubles-then and later on in a little while.

I can hear the motor turning or trying to turn but the window won’t budge. I have to push window up by hand and down to move it. Guessin it’s the gear on the motor stripped or somethin

Well notice where it STOPS and look in the runner--it could be dry or oput of alignment. Try some type of oil in the runner and see if it travels more. That could be your problem.
