Hi all,

I'm looking into some new rims when I get my BFG 33 x 10.50's and am wondering what offset rim to purchase. In fact, I have no idea what the number that is given for offset even means. Any help would be great. I'd also appreciate knowing what folks who run 33 x 12.50's on stock height have done for offset and/or backspacing.

Here's the wheels I'm looking at American Racing Baja 15 x 8

They have a -19 offset. Is the 19 a centimeter measurement from the inside of the rim to the mounting point or the outside of the rim to the mounting point or am I not even close?

offset refers to distance off center that the ****** mating face is. Backspacing refers to the distance from the back edge or inside edge of the rim to the ******. Have you looked in the sticky posts at the top of this forum on wheel size? you may have issues with clearance running 33s.

I'm looking at getting those 33x10.5" BFG's in the near future too. The should mount up fine on my 15x8" wheels. I'll have the front lifted a couple inches which should help with the clearance.

with a 10 inch wide tire you should not have any rub with a stock rim. Whatever the stock offset/backspace is for a bronco rim you can run up to an 11 inch wide tire. I have experienced tire rub with a 12.5 but none with anything narrower

I have heard that with the newer bronco's you have to shim out the front bumper to clear the larger tires without the lift. I run 12.5's on my stock rims on my 81 and I have no rub issues on anything, i've got 33's I had on before the lift then lifted front 3" and rear 5", looking to get 35's when I can afford them

That is true, on the 92-96 style you may need to shim the bumper out an inch or so for 33's. Some tires do fit, just depends on the tread. I had 33 inch BFG Mud Terrains on mine with no bumper rub. A friend has a 94 F150 and his 33 inch BFG All Terrains do rub. Put 1/2 inch of washers on the mounting bolts to shim it out and it works great.

my 89 ran 31x10.50 on stock steel rims and they rubbed the radius arms up front.

that sucks. I have 31x10.5's on my 2wd drive pickup and I can stick my hand between the tire and the radius arm at full lock.

Seabronc,
That's a great website - explains everything. Does anyone know if a 7 or 8 inch wide rim would be best for a 10.5 inch tire? Any pros or cons either way?
You will get a little more tire surface on the road with the 8 inch rim, plus the bead angle is just slightly better. As long as you are within the tire manufacturer's spec then their warranty is valid. If you go outside those specifications then you are on your own. Meaning that if the bead popped and you had an accident causing serious injury to someone, they are off the hook in a law suit and you are on it.

I have known people who brag about the fact that they have had 12.5's on stock 7" rims and nothing happened. I have also told my kids not to do something because they may get hurt and they do it anyway thinking, "See I didn't get hurt", until oneday their timing wasn't just right and "SMACK" down they go. My comment when they come crying to me is, "I told ya so  ".

Good luck,

:)>-
