this valve in attached pic (the one up top that looks like a bike tire cap would fit it) is slowly leaking fuel...does it need to be capped?? this may be a funny question, but I am totally clueless under the hood.

thanks for any help

on an unrelated topic... why is it foamy under my oil cap?

***I love my bronco...help it live!***

From what I understand that is the fuel rail valve and no it shouldn't need a cap....or at least mine doesn't have a cap and it's not leaking.

I'm not sure if you can replace the valve in there as it's used it to de-pressurized and/or test the fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

As far as foamy under the oil cap I think the far and wide answer to "foamy oil" is water/antifreeze in your oil e.g. leaky head gasket.

But here are some questions to help determine if that might be the problem:

How does the oil look on the dipstick when you check it?

And how about the level of your oil? Does it mysteriously increase as time passes?

the oil on the dipstick is fine, except for at the very tip, there is a small dot of foam... the other night after driving for about 15 minutes the oil gauge did climb a little bit and the engine light came on. it doesn't seem that the oil gauge has gone down at all, either.

is it dangerous to drive if the "fuel rail valve" seems to have fuel on the tip of it? ( in other words it's not a leak, more of a very slow accumulation.)

A leak is a leak plain and simple... Yes you should have that fixed.

Oil problem is something else that should be addressed... It looks like you have a head gasket leaking and that is putting coolant in the oil. Have you checked the coolant lately? Is their a dark film on top of the coolant at all?

As far as the fuel rail goes I looked around and it seems that fuel rail valve is called a "schrader valve". Should come out like the ones on your tires. From what I found you should be able to replace it and part can be found at the auto parts store. But if you do take it out be prepared for some amount of gas to spray out as the line is pressurized. Probably best to depressurize it just line a tire first and then unscrewing it from the fuel rail. And as for driving around with it leaking I would use your better judgment. Any time you have leaking gas there would be potential of a fire I would say.

The oil situation doesn't sound good but maybe some other opinions from guys on here would be good.

Another question....have you noticed any of your coolant disappearing?

I just opened the radiator cap the other day, and all seems normal....I didn't dip my finger in there to check for a dark film. I guess I should...it looks like she's out of commission for now, until I can find a good mechanic and a winning lotto ticket!

That watered oil under your cap is normal. What it is from is heat from the engine turning into condensation at that point and eventually mixing with the oil up there and it forms that.I see it on alot of vehicles where the oil fill is high like that on the valve covers.Just wipe it out with a rag every time it starts to build up.I dont know why everyone else automatically jumps to the worst possible senerio of it being a head gasket instead of looking at a simpler answer when this is a common thing for those engines to do.If its not losing coolant then you DONT have a headgasket issue. <_<

95eddiebauer -- looks like you probably only need a winning lottery ticket for about $30 -- $10 for new schrader valve and the tool to take it out and $20 for oil and filter.

And the best part about it is your Bronco Lives. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Let us know how it goes! I'd love to see another Bronco out on the road instead of in the junkyard.
