so i had a off road trip with some friends and we did fine all day until the end when we ran down a stream, the last bit of stream the engine tone changed and the in gear idle became irradic kinda like when u pull a plug wire while the engine is running, i figured i got water some where so i removed plugs, distributor cap and cleaned it all out and sprayed it with wd-40 i also reset the idle set screws on the carb and tried re tuning it i put it all back together and its still not right. it starts right up and once i give it gas it will drive fine, but like a stop light and in drive the idle is rough and struggling. any ideas? i looked for loose vacuum hoses, wires etc... and found nothing, maybe carb rebuild its an edelbrock 4 barrel. thanx

how deep was the water and how long were you in it? how much have you driven since then. Is the Neutral idle out of whack or just the in gear idle? Does it still shift fine?

well i would say the deepest part was maybe 2 feet deep we ran in and out of the stream for maybe 20 min. i driven maybe 20 miles and it shifts fine the truck is running much better now. im just going to remove the top of the carb and spary cleaner and dry with compresses air. its when its idling in drive that its funky, it drives fine plenty of go.

thats strange. I would say you either sucked some water in through a vac line(possibly on the tranny) or you got your air filter wet. Its hard to diagnose if it got better but thats not really a bad thing right:)

yeah with 2ft of water, i couldnt imagine where else it would cause you trouble on that thing besides the modulator vac line. Do you still have inner fenders?

Seems to me that I remember a story that a young apprentice was sent to a car wash with a can of WD-40.

Would the fan splash water all over the engine if the truck was submerged in two feet of water?

BTW.. Shift1313, welcome back! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> MIssed ya! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

thanks joe.

Back when i was an oil change monkey i was sent to the carwash with an old ranger and a can of WD. I had to clean the mud out of the engine bay before we could work on it:)

lol, well i was going pretty fast so it definately splashed up onto the engine and the fan didnt help probably, i still got the inner fenders, i took the top of the carb and cleaned all the gunk that was inside, it was pretty gunky, adjusted the choke and she runs like a champ now, i also orderd that pre filter just for added protection.
