well after a long weekend of getting the new zf into my truck, fired it up to warm the oil for an oil change and the water pump starting leaking out of the bypass hole at the bottom of the pump. same place it leaked from 2 yrs ago

now my question to everyone is............

is there anything i can do to possibly prevent the water pump bolts from snapping off again

when i replaced it in 06 both of the bolts ended up snapping on me and i don't want to have to deal with that again

or am i up against a gamble and just have to see how it turns out

Since they were out 2 years ago you should be fine. They were in there a lot longer last time

Yeah shouldn't be a problem this time...You might try what i use...It's a copper based anti-seize it works wonders....keeps metals from seizing up and keep aluminum and steel from galling....just a thought.... B)

Yeah... I HATE it when that happens!

And yeah... I don't know if you call your truck a he or a she, but when you get all done... take it out for a good tough ride and show it who's the Boss!

I'll bet you are glad you used some never sieze.

Glad it all worked out ok.

so the good the bad and the ugly

took the truck out for a run on sunday to test out the new tranny and make sure the pump was working good.

transmission is freaking amazing. and the truck hadn't ran that cool in quite some time

unfortunately the clutch fan decided to leave it's assigned position. yardape first made the comment that he believed my fan was out of balance. and i think with the new water pump having nice tight bearings and the extra torque of the tranny caused the engine to torque up enough to sheer the fan right off the pump

so that being sad the new pump started puking fluid again. at first glance it looked to be cracked at the top from the fan tearing off, but upon further examination it looks like the pull from the fan was so great it pulled a few of the water pump bolts lose.

i'll be tearing down the whole front half of the engine again to fix the damage done by the fan and making sure the water pump is still ok

mskitten, when your bolts broke the first time, how did you get them out?

Im fearing doing the job myself, because im limited on tools, I have a basic socket set, and some other things but nothing too techinical and was wondering if I should just have a shop do the job

i had to have a shop get the bolts out. i got it towed to the shop after the bolts snapped on me

and for a quick update, the fan toasted out the bearings on the brand new water pump so i have to get it all replaced before sunday morning so we can head out on a run again

"Use Ford parts, let da ZONE handle ice scrapers"

And can you get ARP bolts? Didn't see any Canadian Distributors, but some maybe close enuf in da upper States

i have a friend with an "in" at one of the auto value stores

the pump is under warranty so that's not an issue. it's just a pita having to go through the process of changing it out again

I got to further investigate mine after work and found that the water pump had been seeping but the bypass hose was shot and spewing coolant, so I will replace all the hoses, belts and pump

hopefully there will be nothing left to fail
