Hey all, I have a weird problem, I keep going through fan belts like crazy, and I finally figured out that my water pump pulley is misaligned by about 1/16th of an inch or so... just about enough to cause the first grooveof the belt to ride on the lip of the pulley. Does anyone know if they make a spacer I can install or maybe I should check and see if it was overtorqued? Hope someone has an answer for me, thanks

So, they say there is no dumb question besides the one that isn't asked, so... I am guessing that I should just take out the 4 bolts that hold on the WP pulley now, take that sucker off and put on the pulley shim, then replace the pulley? OR am I going to have to get a "pulley" puller a case of beer and have a real go at it?

The pulley should just slide off, although it may take a little persuasion, you shouldn't need a puller.

While you've got it apart and there's no tension on the pulley, make sure there is no excessive play in the water pump shaft, and make sure the bolts or studs are long enough for the spacer pack you put in.

Remember to use some (blue) locktite on the bolts going back in!!

Thanks, I am sure that the studs will be too short, or the shaft will be broken or something... you see, Murphy loves to give me ****..... Thanks for the advice though, will pick up some Smurf ***** to put in there too!

If your only shimming it 1/16 or 1/8 you should be fine with the stock bolts . If you do have to get longer ones for some strange reason they are fine thread 5/16-24 . Dont put too long of ones in there or they will hit the webbing on the pump :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
