Depending on how "tired" your engine is and what your limited budget is, are going to determine what you will be able to do. What kind of budget are you looking at. I had my engine rebuilt, bored .030 over, roller rockers, 87 5.0 heads and a few other minor things done for $2200.

If you are on a limited budget and are mechanically inclined, you can rebuild it yourself. There are a few things you might want to farm out to a machine shop, but sweat equity always makes the out of pocket expense lower.

Good luck,

Limited budget is pretty vague. Cheapest way to go is to rebuild yourself and put back stock. Even this depending how good your parts are can cost 1000-1500. If it still runs pretty good and you can still drive it, you are better off driving it and saving your money and doing it right the first time out. It's like anything else once you start the sky is the limit, but with big power comes bad fuel mileage.....

S_bolt19, I have an 79 351w that I would like to get some more power out of.. I noticed that you used some 87 mustang heads. What kind of increase do you think you got out of that? I have an complete 5.0 out of an 88 mustang gt

I got a parts store 302 long block @ $1200 for my 70. The do it my self rebuild would have cost very close to that and had no warrantee. A ring job would have been a few hundred, but a ring job is not a rebuild.

The first thing you wanna do is take a compression test, if it is good and consistant, never mind the bottom end rebuild, focus on a cam, an intake/carb and exhaust. (Not necessarily in that order)

Merry Christmas
