i just wanted to pass on a little advice. First things you should check on you're new to you bronco. the steering drag link, tie rod ends and track bar. i have owned my '79 for two years and have always figured the sloppy steering was just a worn out steering gear. i just recently found the drag link was to blame. not only was it badly worn, but the end that attaches to the pitman arm was finger tight. yesterday i noticed the track bar was also finger tight. i guess what i'm getting at is when you buy a used vehicle, especialy one that gets modified by you're local shade tree mechanic. check it out bumper to bumper! it's not just worn out parts you have to worry about. you never know what the previouse owner has done, or has forgot to do.

hey donk, if you have owned this rig for 2 years, is it possible that this loosness your talking about has happened while you have had it? in any event you should always check these things in intervals. thats what owning a great piece of machinery is all about! you gotta keep it great with maintainence.those parts you mentioned are typical wear out parts on thses trucks and should be ''under the microscope'' . sure, buyer beware but owner take care!

yea it's true i've owned this bronco for two years. NO it's not possible for any of the components i'm talking about loosening up during my time of ownership. my bronco has spent the last two years in my driveway. mainly due to the fact that california has such strict tampering laws. i had to restore the engine to stock. instead of just replacing any worn, missing or non functioning parts with new a/m performance goodies. i've had to spend countless hours at my local bone yards salvaging what i could to make it run. i've only just recieved my plates and registration two weeks ago. now i'm working out the bugs. the reason i posted this warning was to inform people the dangers of purchasing an old rig, it's not just wear and tear you have to keep an eye on. you dont know how mechanicaly inclined the prev. owner was. in my experience every rig i have purchased has had some pretty scary things done to it. my bronco had all the bushings in the front replaced with poly bushings. so if you just look at it everything looks new. you wouldn't suspect that anything would be loose. i am an "owner that takes care" but there are owners out there who may not realize they are driving a death trap. those are the people i'm trying to help.

It is a good idea to get under your vehicles every year or two and "nut & bolt" it. In other words throw a wrench on every nut and bolt on the under side to check that it is not loose, missing, damaged, or broken. This is not just for old rigs, I've found loose bolts on year old trucks before. A person should also (or have a shop they trust) check, grease, and repair his steering and drivelines every 3000-5000 miles.

You have to love working on your old Bronco if you are truely going to enjoy it! Fixing them is at least half (and sometimes all) the fun of owning them! LOL I just drove mine for the first time in just over a year the other day. Put a new tranny, drive shafts, rear main, other odds and ends in it. I found all sorts of loose parts and future fixes just waiting for me to work on. Get a dry garage with a radio and fridge and enjoy!!

Explorers and firestone tires i dont like the tires either but It aint the dam tires if it were then why are the sport tracs doing the same thing ? The problem is the soft ass suspension and driving habits.

well, if you remember, they said the tires were recomended to be inflated to 32 lbs. each. thats under inflation! i dont care who or what you are thats a recipe for disaster regardless of anyones driving habits. add that to the screwed up suspension on the exploders and you have a mobile coffin.ford didnt lie when they sold a weeble woble s.u.v. but firestone did with the tire pressure specs. theres my 2 cents. just keep loving the broncos and keep the explorer conversations to the explorer sections, not here.
