very little heat and 4x4 button seems dead

hey there i have an 89 bronco 2 and my heater puts out very little heat i have changed thermo and checked anti freeze but still get very cool air and my push button 4x4 will not engage all the time it doesnt light up or try to engage or it clicks trying to engage and never does but every once in awhile it works fine i was wondering if there is a relay i dont know about any help would be great

As far as your heater goes,I would check the box that holds your core to make sure the air can flow through.also check for kinks in your heater hoses and check that the warm and cool air selector is operating correctly.Some are vacuum and some are manual,yours should be a vacuum.For your 4x4 button,ive never been a big fan of these and as far as I know,would just search for shorts as any other elect. problem.Maybe the selector is faulty or has a loose connection....good luck!

thanks for your help ill check those things also i hate the push button 4x4 too this is my first bronco to have it and im not happy

I bought the linkages off of a wrecked '89 manual shift,and converted my 4x4......never been happier.

You have an 89 BII so swapping in a manual is pretty easy to do and the parts are easy to find.

You can rebuild your shift motor and it will work just fine. It's an easy process just tedious and time consuming. You can got to www.explorer4x4.com and read up on there tech pages how to rebuild it.
