Upgrading tranny

I have a 88 bronco 5.8L want to upgrade trans to a newer over drive from a newer bronco is it a simple swap out or is there alot of mods that need to be done?????

what trans do you have now? c6 3 speed or AOD? you want to go to E4OD?

if you're going from c6 to AOD I dont think there are any mods required,The AOD is controlled by the same vacuum setup that your c6 would be, the shift linkage also uses a 3 foreword position setup so your column isn't affected, I would just double check when you get one that it will mate up with your transfer case.

going from c6 or AOD to E4OD requires a little extra work.

the AOD requires the linkage from the donor truck. it is not controlled by vacuum. I also believe it's a longer transmission than most so measure up! the AOD has a throttle valve cable that controles down shifting and overdrive and if you don't get that right it can ruin your trans in only a few miles
