I have a Holley 4bbl carb the 4180 that came stock on the bronco, I finally got the rebuild kit and the bowl I needed so I can get this puppy on my truck. Got a date with my father in law this weekend for the big rebuild. Here is the big question. On the inside of both bowls there is a black plastic cup thingy called a secondary baffle, that surrounds the float *****. I am missing both of these.... exactly how important are they? I mean I know the carb came with them, and must therefore be somewhat needed but considering I could not find a new bowl for the carb what are the chances that I will find these little things. As far as I can tell they dont do much work in there but I need to know whether or not I can proceed with the build or am I stuck for longer waiting to find these parts. Please help with this...........

I wish I could, bud. But I haven't taken apart a carburator in about 11 or 12 years and I would just be guessing. No fear, though, I'm sure someone will pop in with the answer. They always do.

Crisis averted gents I went to the junk yard and was able to find what i needed. I found online that they were pretty darn important according to a carb manufacturer so what the **** it only cost me a couple bucks and damn near heat stroke to get them. But I would still love to know exactly what they do.... Oh and BIDI I did not mean anything about the mechanic/boy comment I did not know the answer either

Heck, I was hoping Seabronc would answer you, he's the expert on the HLY 4180. When I rebuilt mine, I found out that there's a BIG difference in quality between Holley and cheaper gasket kits. The cheaper kits often won't work due to the gaskets being poorly cut. Even after spending $50 more on a HLY kit, the old carb just would'nt work right. Leaked gas everywhere, no response, made about 7 mpg. Bought a reman. HLY for about $300, since the OEM from Ford is about $800.

No harm done, I believe I'm one of the younger one's here... Wait, I'm almost 23 so maybe just a bit on the younger Bronco lover side. It doesn't bother me non, I kind of like being a boy.
