SO IT STARTED OFF JUST WITH IT DIEING AFTER DRIVIN FOR A BIT. BUT WOULD START RIGHT BACK UP AND BE FINE. THEN WOULD DIE RANDOMLY AND NOT START FOR ABOUT TEN MIN AND BE FINE. NOW WILL DIE AFTER A BIT OF DRIVING AND DIE LIKE LAST NIGHT AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP TIL THISMORNING. CHANGED THE TFI MODUAL. IT TURNS OVER JUST FINE. ALL POWER IS ON. I CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMP. I HAVE FUEL PRESSURE. HAVENT CHECKED FOR SPARK REALLY YET CAUSE WAS BROKE DOWN AT IN AND OUT PARKIGN LOT. BUT NOW THAT ITS SAT OVER NIGHT ITS STARTS AND RUNS FINE SO I HAVE TO BREAK IT TO FIX IT NOW. CAUSE CANT DIANOSE WHEN THERE IS NO PROB. ANY IDEAS. THINKIN MAYBE BAD COIL AND ONCE IT HEATS UP IT STOPS WORKING MAYBE?

ALSO I NOTICED THAT THE MOUNTING PLATE FOR MY IG COIL HAS BROKEN OF ITS MOUNTING LOCATION. DOES THE COIL USE THAT MOUNTING PLATE FOR GROUND?

buy a multi meter and a test light and run some diagnostics on your ignition system components and save yourself some time and money. the coil grounds through the icm and distributor circuits and that is how it controls the spark so the broken bracket doesn't make a difference.

and please go easy on the caps.

Start with the basics, spark plugs, spark plug wires, rotor and cap. once you test/ eliminate them as the cause of the problem then you can test the coil, icm and your pick up.

My latest no start problem was caused by old spark plugs. with spark plugs being about 20 bucks it should have been my first suspect.

i had the same prob it ended up being the pump on frame under drivers seat . i to also heard my pump but when the new one went in there was a huge diff in sound . just an idea but try tapping it or tyr to move it back and forth in its bracket to see if it changes in sound the next time it dies out on u. good luck.

Thanks everyone. Ended up having no spark from the coil wire. Ended up being the tfi mod. Mine was bad. New one was bad. Third one was good. Put it in started right up. Also decided to replace distributor abd coil with upgraded ones while in there.
