I have a buddy who has had a truck in storage for a year, hasnt been started. I hate to just turn the key and hope for the best. any recommendations as to steps to take, such as spraying some **** into engine through the spark plug hole... I know all the fluids need to drained and filled with new but just worried about bending a pushrod or something. thanks

You are onto something there :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . When you have the plugs out you should be able to turn it by hand, remove the belts and grab a hold of the pulley on the crank shaft. It should turn over fairly easily since there is no compression with the plugs out. I'd first spray in a little PB blaster in each cylinder and let it set over night, that way if there is a bit of a rust weld, the PB Blaster will have a chance to break up the rust. It should have been prepared prior to storing it a year but that is water over the dam. You should normally be able to turn it over fairly easily without the plugs in, if you can't, you've got problems. If you use a bump switch then you can control the speed of the turn over by momentarily hitting the switch and be in a position to see what is going on. You definitely want to control it that way rather than using a key and setting in the truck. Hopefully the storage location wasn't too high in humidity.

Good luck,

:)>-
