I am new to Fords, but I learned from building one good truck from an '81 and an '83 that 351 Cleveland motors don't take the same transmission (bell housing pattern) as do the later 351 Windsor motors. Having wound up with the older Cleveland motor and 3-speed auto in the '83, I would like to know if there is a 4-speed auto transmission that will fit a Cleveland block? If so, would a computer be needed to control the trans?

Well lets first clarify for the 10000000000000000 th time that a 351 cleveland does infact have the exact same bellhousing pattern, motor mount pattern as any 302 or 351W . What you are refering too is a 351 modified which has a totally different mounting pattern than a 302 or 351W . It shares the same bellhousing pattern as the 460 and I believe the same motor mounts as well . I have had and still do have many clevelands so if anyone wants pics to back this up I will be more than glad to provide some visual aids . The cleveland motor was only produced for 4 yrs 1970 through 1974 and was killed by political shit and emissions laws . I dont think it was ever in a truck from the factory but widely used in the mustangs, torinos , and such . The 351M was used up till like 82 and was replaced by the 351W . If you can find an E4OD that was behind a 460 would probably have to come out of an F250,F350,E250 then you would have an overdrive tranny that will work for your needs . You will need a stand alone controller to operate it and the only one that makes one is www.baumanengineering.com it cost $400 and is a pain in the ass too hook up if you have trouble reading a wiring diagram , Well its a pain in the ass even if you can theres a whole bunch of wires . Hope that helps . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
