Transmission swap question

Hello, this is my first post on Broncozone...........I aquired my grandfathers 1990 bronco...302 (5.0L ) and auto transmission........I would like to put an earlier model trans and transfer case in this rig, but not sure what will bolt up..or if it can even be done.............Would love some help here, all my buds are Chevy guys and know nothing about fords so i hope someone can help............thank you in advance

In simple terms, the 80-96 Ford transmissions and transfer cases share the same bolt patterns and will interchange/swap to the smallblock motors. Try to find out what trans you have now, should be the E4OD or C6. Check the sticker on the driver's side door jamb, and look for the "trans" code. It will be "E" for the E4OD, "K" for the C-6. IF you change from the E4OD to an earlier model C6, you need to address the computer, since it controls the shift on the E4OD and not on the C6. Welcome to Bronco Zone, JSM84

i was curious about that C-6 swap too. anyone ever tried any other automatic trans swaps. My E4OD has that that cursed gremlin in it. its a 93 so it has that torque converter vibration. and E4OD's aren't cheap.

You have the option of the C6 (no OD) or the AOD (OD, non-computer controlled), but you can also upgrade the E4OD to 95-newer parts. Think that covers any automatic tranny options for a direct bolt-up. The C-4 auto was used in Early Broncos and some cars.

You need the ECM for the C6 or AOD mated engine you have.
