What's a reasonable price to have a C4 auto transmission rebuilt? This is on a '73 Bronco and is of course a 3 speed. I also want the D20 adaptor seal replaced (may be included).

Can they replace the rear main seal while the trans is down? If so I would like this included.

Thanks Bronco dudes!

I had my C4 rebuilt for around $600 three years ago. It included a shift kit and valve body. To keep cost down i pulled it myself. It wouldnt hurt to purchase a t-convertor and the main seal can be replaced. This should give u some idea!

Bronc76 - I guess you reinstalled your trans too. How much do you think that saved you? I plan on letting the shop do it.

TX- if i had to guess it probably saved me between $250-$275. i cant remember what the price of the convertor was. For cheap insurance i also installed a tranny cooler.

shop i work at in AR would charge about 1100-1200 to r and r and rebuild.

That is a pretty good price for around my neck of the woods. I think the last time I checked an R&R job, and it was for a 66 Mustang 4-speed, it was in the neighborhood of $1500.

Yeah the reason I was asking is because one shop already told me about 1800. I thought that sounded way steep. I hope I can get a good shop to do it for 1200 or less.

Thanks.
