I have been having a hard time getting in to drive...Have to let truck warm up a very long time before it will go into gear. Just had new trans filter and basic service. Did not help issue. Was told that more than likely it needs a new transmission pump. With the amount of labor involved, should I go ahead and have it rebuilt. Also, how much more labor is involved to go ahead and replace the rear main seal. Don't want to go overboard, but is this one of those deals where I should go ahead and knock it out while there. Any advive is much appreciated. By the way, it is an 89 XLT.

Since you have to pull the tranny to replace the rear main, I would fix that while the trans is out. Is it an AOD automatic?

Yes, it is an auto..is this a common issue with the trans pump (not wanting to go into gear until warmed up). I would hate to have this job done, just to find out it does not work and have the whole thing pulled again.

Also, did the shop do OR YOU CAN DO a Self Test by our pal, BroncoJoe19

do the KOEO = Key On Engine Off portion first

& Remember to have engine @ Normal Operating Temperature before doing the KEY ON ENGINE RUNNING (KOER) portion

do it and post any codes found here.

What temperature is it outside when this happens?
