Was there a noise when it quit pull'n ...?

Sounds like the torque converter went south. There's no simple fix. (but stranger things have happened). Unless a line came loose, or the linkage, it will prob. have to come out. (the trans.)

Sorry, no good news... :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

there are bands in the trans that act like clutches- sounds like they're worn out... the metal shavings are not good. did the fluid smell burnt?

THe 96 Bronco has the E4OD tranny, which is computer controlled. THere are sensors that will default to a lower gear if one goes bad, but if you lost all forward movement, it's not a good sign. ANY metal shavings/filings in the fluid or pan are a bad sign, too, as is a dark or burnt fluid. MY only suggestino is to get an estimate from a very reliable transmission shop that you trust, or get 2-3 estimates from shops in your area. Rebuild prices will vary from $1700-$2800, so be careful. You can find a used one in a salveg yard for $600-$700, but labor to install it can run up to $500. It may be better to buy a new/reman. tranny or have yours rebuilt with a good warranty.

I dropped $2400 on my GM reman. 98 Chevy tranny last Summer, and it needed an overhaul a month later. A warranty is worth the extra cost, IMO.

IF you plan to do any towing, purchase an aftermarket tranny coooler, too. IT will help protect the tranny from overheating.

Hello Justshootme84 is right the E4OD does have sensore in it and solenoids that control line pressure and shift points and such but the tranny will function with the computer disconnected in first and second gear . So if you manually put it in 1st gear and it doesnt move you have broken something in the tranny . The last one I had die melted the clutch plates together and it went forward no matter where the shifter was even reverse . You may be better off looking for another tranny right now try to find one out of a 95 or newer that has all the updates . Unless you know someone that does trannies your goona spend alot to get it rebuilt . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
